Come on people - post yours schools stats. I will be matching next year - I am very interested in if people would post their stats like they do in the allopathic threads (anonymously post or not). These posts are a tremendous help to your fellow MD/PhDers. Personally interested in IM. Heard its getting very competitive at the ivory towers and would like to hear some perspective from an MSTPer about the current interview trail and match. I will certainly have my stats posted either in the open or annon.

Why does it matter that much? Do as well as you can and apply.

The residency match process has almost the same level of anxiety than the majority of you experience in the MD/PhD admission process. There is not a lot of information out there of what works for the 500+ graduates that we have every year. For example, no data on MD/PhDs is present in their reports. Here is the main NMRP website with data: http://www.nrmp.org/match-data/main-residency-match-data/

The best resource will always be the graduating students at your program. I'm actually not even sure how helpful these match lists are for someone finishing up--they satisfy our curiosity and could be helpful to someone who is choosing a program to join, but School X's match list is not going to be meaningful to me, at School Y. You still have a few months before your graduating students will leave. Set up a panel where they can talk about their experiences, ask people to sit down with you and get coffee, craft a survey they can answer anonymously, etc.

This has relatively little to do with School Y or X, but about the productivity and scores of applicants. It also has more to do with specialties/sub-specialties where MD/PhD students are valued at a higher rate than other applicants.

@ratherbefishing - I mean yes, you can always do your best and apply, and obviously I have and will continue to talk with our recent grads. However, the grads from my school are a small number, most of whom are not going into my field of interest.

@Fencer - Thanks - I have studied the NRMP data very carefully and if you dissect the stats for MD/PhDs overall and also for your own specialty you can gain very valuable information. And knowing which specialities value research is helpful to know.

Of course, each applicant at this level has his/her own circumstances, wants etc... and this doesn't come out in the NRMP data or completely in forum posts. However, knowing how others are doing is going to help me better judge my competitiveness. I'd like to know sooner than later how competitive I am so that I can better judge what areas to focus on, how broadly to apply and how many interviews to go on. Feedback from recent grads would help me better ballpark it.

And yes, its obviously partly my own neurosis to know these things. But wouldn't you want to have an idea of how easily people from your specialty are matching into fellowships? Or wouldn't you be interested in knowing ballpark starting salaries for your specialty in a certain region of country? I could easily just say "Well, just try your best, talk to your colleagues and apply broadly and it'll work out" but at least to me there's something unsatisfying about that.

Check the residency specific forums on SDN regarding matched stats and research opportunities. Those forums will be the best source for specialty specific info. There are a few specialties where outside forums are more popular than SDN (uncleharvey and auntminnie for exampel).
