2015 Post-Doc Interview Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
How about Cleveland Clinic ? Specifically the neuropsychology postdoc? It does not sound like anyone has heard from them, but they had an early deadline so I wasn't sure.

Anyone hear from (or know of anyone who has heard from) Boston Children's non-neuro tracks?

I know someone who is interviewing with them at INS (neuro) and she heard weeks ago!

not me, but one of my internship-mates got an interview for a neuropsychology fellowship at Cleveland Clinic a while back (probably ~2 weeks ago).

Has anyone heard anything from the Detroit VA?

Just earlier today, I received an email invitation for the health psych specialization, but I'm not sure if other specializations were notified.

Hi Folks, so I feel like it is getting kind of late for notifications but am still waiting on a few sites, anyone else? I was wondering if anyone has heard from UCLA neuro, Palo Alto VA neuro, and Milwaukee VA neuro? Thanks!!!

INS is next week. If they are interviewing there, I imagine those invites have been sent out. If not, that site needs to get it's **** together.
Haha that was exactly my thought too! Looks like Milwaukee VA is the only one out of those 3 that advertised interviewing at INS though and they had a later due date...

A friend of mine is interviewing for a neuro position with Milwaukee VA at INS. I think he was notified a few weeks ago.

Oops. See above.

I am getting antsy. I have yet to hear from four non neuro sites, none of which are mentioned on this board. I'm hoping to hear from them before mid-February but I'm thinking about contacting some sites next week. Thoughts?

I was waiting on UCLA neuro too, but they just emailed to say that they've filled their position. Still waiting to hear one way or another from SF VA neuro, and I broke down and emailed their admin coordinator. I'm considering it a rejection at this point :(

I have contacted some sites( almost all university counseling centers), most have not started reviewing applications
so there's still hope :)

That's good to hear; I'm still waiting to hear from most of my sites, so maybe there is still hope. When did you submit the applications? Did they have deadlines?

Thanks! I too got rejections from UCLA and Palo Alto today, still no word from Milwaukee. Thanks everyone!

Anyone hear from Patton state hospital or USC forensic track?

By any chance, has anyone heard from Hartford Hospital/IOL?

deadlines varied, between December 1 and Feb 1. I submitted my apps pretty early.. so I've been waiting for a while. It looks like many sites extended their deadlines and others will only start reviewing postdocs when they are done with internships (so not before Feb 20ish?)

So you guys know He's Just Not That Into You and how they talk about how people tell each other these "legendary" type of anecdotes that allow them to essentially keep kidding themselves about someone's interest in them?

I totally have one of the equivalent for post-docs. One of my top choice sites, which had notified weeks ago and which I had written off for that reason, contacted me for an interview invite. Apparently due to some administrative issue they had never notified me. I am rather in shock (the good kind of shock)!

Hi everyone! Is anyone here applying to college counseling postdocs? I'm wondering specifically if anyone has heard from UC San Diego CAPS?

How does the ranking work? Do we have to submit something via APPA CAS, or do the sites just make offers?

I applied to UCCs, and haven't heard from any (besides confirming that they received my apps). I think they're just on a slower timeline than neuro and VAs.

For neuro applicants, my supervisor said he asked sites he was rejected from for interviews anyway, and some of them granted it- since they'd be at INS anyway. I guess that makes it worthwhile to respond to rejection emails but he applied 7-8 years ago- don't know if that flies now. I'm a bit anxious now about interviews. My Skype/phone ones seem to go a lot better than in-person ones.

It really depends on the site and how many people they have going to INS. Scheduling those interviews can be pretty tedious, and trying to fit a couple more applicants in, especially when they likely won't be ranked, can be something of an imposition.

If they agreed to interview you they probably would rank you, otherwise what's the point? But as I said, that was his technique 8 years ago, things have changed. Being at INS now, its pretty hectic and interviews are very exhausting for both parties, so I would not recommend asking for interviews if rejected. Ok to ask to talk to staff members etc, build good professional contacts.

Since it's getting closer to that time, I wanted to ask everyone how they'd like to handle offers/rejections. Do you want to PM them to me and I can post them on this thread (or you can post them yourself)? Shall we start a new thread? What are your thoughts?

Hi all,

I wanted to chime in because I had something really unusual happen...Got rejected by a postdoc site relatively quickly after sending in my application. It's a very competitive site in a major city and I had asked for feedback, which was provided to me by their TD, in pretty generic forum. I forgot about that site, interviewed elsewhere, and accepted an offer.

SIX weeks later, out of the blue--yes, that was a six--the site TD emails me inviting me for an interview, saying that they decided to extend interview invites to a few more excellent candidates. The even weirder thing is that, according to this site, all of their multiple interview days had already passed, so apparently they must not have liked who they invited to interview?? Having accepted an offer weeks ago, I obviously declined their interview invite...but seriously? Because I specifically asked and received feedback, it's not like it was an administrative error or something, and I am certain that no one intervened on my behalf. So there you go.

Personally I'm a bit apprehensive about posting those specifics... I have received an offer from one of my top sites that, if I listed it, would probably be super identifying. Or maybe I'm just paranoid :censored:

Oh yeah, I definitely understand that. That's why I suggested maybe PMing me (which also could be identifying, I suppose, but I have no way of knowing to whom sites are sending out offers). Of course, most people will probably get offers on the 17th so maybe this isn't necessary anyway.

Congrats on the offer, by the way!

How are the neuro applicants feeling after INS? I got a rejection from non-match site already- which is good so I only have sites in the match, but bad for my ego. Hope this algorithm match works out
