Can we have another forum subsection for foreign schools? Or if not, why not just include osteopathic schools in the school specific discussion?

There's already an osteopathic school-specific discussion subforum in the osteopathic forum.

True, but why separate allo and osteo but lump US MD with foreign med schools? I highly doubt that someone looking to apply US MD is going to want to go abroad.

So, what is relating to the Duke-NUS in your post? And, why don't you just start a new thread to discuss with more people who cares about this question?

Well dnus is a foreign school. I don't want to make a new thread because I don't want to spam the board. Also, I just found out there's an international board. I reported this thread so hopefully it gets moved soon.

On it's website it's name is Duke NUS Medical School. Does this mean the school is no longer graduate entry medicine program? It is an undergraduate medicine program? Or both?

If that's the case, why does the school change the name and mislead us? Even this thread is using the old name.

I agree with the sentiments that this thread belongs in the international forum.

Also, is selling items against the rules of the forum?

Application just opened! I was initially quite enthusiastic about applying here, but having read a few anecdotal posts on here I'm not so sure. I will start on the application just in case I decide to submit it at the end.
Are you applying? I'm not sure I want to apply... It sounds fishy...

I believe that to make an informed decision, do register and attend their open houses.
The link is https://www.duke-nus.edu.sg/admissions/information-sessions.
There are opportunities to speak with the admission committee, deans and current students. I attended one of their sessions this year and I found it to be both inspiring and useful.
Good luck with everyone's applications!

After deliberating on the information gathered, I am removing this school from my list of applications.

Was it because of the dismissal horror stories from last years thread?

Ohh!! Good luck haha! Are you applying for the early deadline? I'm planning to submit the whole package in August so I'm working on it recently. Seems like not many applicants post here...

Good luck to you too!!! How's every thing going? I'm still struggling with my MCAT. I don't think i would apply for the early admission. Are you a local student or international student?

If that's the case, why does the school change the name and mislead us? Even this thread is using the old name.

The name was actually changed to avoid confusion about it being a school for graduate-level medical training. https://medicine.duke.edu/medicinenews/duke-nus-graduate-medical-school-updates-its-name The school is not trying to mislead you... it's not fun to replace the huge iron logo stuck in stone in front of the school, trust me ;)

To all the new applicants, please don't be discouraged to apply because of the "horror stories" you read from forums... I'm a current student who happened to click on these old links on a google search and am quite shocked with what I read. There's a selection bias here - those who are doing fine in school (a large majority) don't think of coming back to post on these forms, do they? I'm a good fraction of the way done with med school and I've loved my experience here very much despite the steep learning curve and strict clinical tutors (who are there to make sure you're trained right and ready for the real world), so have many many of my friends. We'd tell you it's tough but it's worth it.

Of course there is always room for improvement - in fact once you're in, one of your complaints will be that the deans are always changing and fine tuning the curriculum, and that's precisely because they are always trying to incorporate our feedback.

Once again, trust in yourselves and please don't be discouraged. It's a challenging but enriching journey. Good luck to you all!!

I am also an international applicant! Just took my mcat on 5 Aug and going to submit the application in early Sept.

Hi, Could you please share your thoughts on duke experience and career progression please? Thanks for your time.
  • DUKE-NUS MD experience:
    • How has your experience been overall with the MD program?
    • As a non-science graduate, how do you think one could manage to cope with the subjects that some of our peers may already have strong knowledge of?
  • Career path after DUKE-NUS MD program
    • I understand the MD program lasts for 4 years after which participants undergo a residency training (for 2 years?) -once they complete all 6 years, what can they practice as (e.g. a GP, a specialist etc?)
    • What about pursuing a specialization -can they go on to pursue further degrees to become surgeons or specialists? If yes, what would be the process (e.g. 2 year course + 1 year residency?) Also, can this be done only after serving the 4 year bond with MOH?

I'm international too. I submitted my application for early acceptance, but it seems sooooo competitive so I'm very scared....:(:(

The first applicant day is approaching.... just curious, has anyone here got the invite?:)

This thread seems so quiet this year.. Good luck to those attending the applicant day tomorrow (19 Sep)!!

Just got an invitation yesterday for the Applicant Day on Nov 18 at Durham. I looked at their schedule and it seems November is the earliest time in North America this cycle.

Finished my applicant today and want to share my experiences with you guys!

It is very different from traditional interviews. While I was getting more infomation about the school, the faculty were also trying to know more about me. It's almost all day long. The environment is very relaxing and most of the faculty are friendly and approachable. I had a taste of the school pedagogy by doing the mini TeamLEAD session. It's really an interesting and fruitful learning process!

I had two rounds of interview. One was very relaxing, while the other one tended to be a little more traditional. I could feel the faculty really want to know who I am, rather than routinely tossing out questions on a quesiton list. The interviewer also wanted me to elaborate on some points I wrote in my application package.

Overall this was an enjoyable experience. Do make some preparation beforehand, but the faculty and staff are very nice, so no need to be stressed out.

Thanks for sharing. When you said "applicant day", you meant the official interview or the open-house sessions that you have to sign up for?

The official interview. I received the email invitiation from the school about two weeks before the interview.

I didn't attend their mini open-houses so I don't know much about that.

Has anybody gotten any offers?
from what I know, the school says it will send its earliest batch of offers in late November. So keep waiting and no news is good news;)

Correct me if I am wrong.

On the website it says offers are made from Oct (https://www.duke-nus.edu.sg/admissions/how-apply) although i heard from previous batches that they were made in November like what you said. I guess no news is good news for now :)

Has anyone got invited to the 14th Nov applicant day yet?

Anyone going to Durham on 11/18? super anxious right now

does anyone know how many students who get the interview get the offer?

Applying here (late! I know!) with lower than average stats, but I very much align with what's going on at Duke-NUS. Looking forward to the opportunity to interview here. Any application tips would be very much appreciated!

Lurker here!

Just found the school postponed their application deadline one month later! Anyone knows the reason? It really makes the school sound fishy...

Really? When was last year's deadline. Although I do agree this year the SDN forum seemed rather quiet for Duke NUS.

I am applying as well! Although I know this is really late in the cycle.

Several weeks ago I checked their website and it said the deadline for md and md/PhD was 01/12 this year, but just a few days ago they seemed to put the deadline to 01/01 next year without any notice or explanations.

edit: I'm just confused about why the school did this. If it wants to change the applicant pool, simply extending the application deadline is likely to result in a bigger one, but a better one is unlikely. Tampering with the deadline may also turn off future potential applicants.

I see. My guess is that this year's candidate pool is smaller than usual. It could just be a coincident, and the school is extending the deadline to get more people to apply.
