Hi all,
I just graduated undergrad with an overall GPA of 3.193 with a 3.0178 in the sciences. I'm currently preparing for the MCATs, and am also enrolled in an environmental microbiology masters program in the fall. I'm thinking Caribbean med school, or a D.O. school(I'd prefer D.O. over caribbean). I'm also currently trying to get as much experience and volunteering I can before applying. My dad is a doctor, so I have learned from him my whole life. My assumption is that admissions boards will not really care about that, and only look at work with other doctors.
I was also thinking about a post bacc, but I'm a little unclear about how they work. I got a D in Vertebrates. If I were to retake it in a post bacc program, does that D get replaced with the new grade, or is it just added to my GPA. Also a school offers cell biology and biochemistry as one class, and it was two separate classes when I took them (B+/B). If I aced a semester of a post bacc, my GPA would go to 3.54 overall and 3.35 in science assuming grades get replaced.
I have no real leadership qualities that I can prove, and I haven't had many jobs over the course of my schooling.
On practice MCATs, I've been scoring around 28-30 on the practice tests(AAMC).
Do I have a shot with my current grades? And would you recommend masters over post bacc? I really don't want to do the masters due to some conflicts and the topic is blah to me. However, I would do it if it increased my chances.
Thanks in advance.
