A friend of mine who goes to school with me asked me to post a Chance me thread for him on here. He doesn't use this site but just wanted to get some opinions on his app. He's a senior and will be applying in 2017. He'll be doing research in a lab during his gap year.

What are his chances at the top schools (Harvard, Penn, Hopkins, etc.) ?

Undergrad: HYP
Ethnicity: African American male
Major: Chemistry
cGPA: 3.72 (possibly a 3.8 by graduation)
sGPA: 3.69
MCAT: 518

ECs: [all hour figures are what he has now]

Clinical Volunteering
- Hospital (210 hrs)
- Clinic (80 hours)
- Hospice (50 hours)
- Hypertension screenings for underserved in community (40 hrs)

Non-clinical Volunteering
- Elementary school literacy tutor (40 hours)
- Soup kitchen (50 hours)
- Habitat for Humanity (30 hours)
- Organization that assists homeless and/or unemployed in applying for jobs and housing (40 hours)
- Red Cross (25 hours)

Research
- Biochemistry (2.5 years, 1 poster)

Shadowing
- Radiology, primary care, cardiology (100 hours)

Additional ECs:
- Trombonist in concert band (3 years)
- Vice president off pre-med club (2 years)
- Treasurer of chemistry club (2 years)

- Fluent in French

He can apply anywhere in my opinion. Literally anywhere. He has a good shot at a lot of top 20's.

tell him to explore some osteopathic and podiatry schools
 
Your friend is platinum at any school. Start his list with Harvard and WashU.
