I am a Biomedical Engineering major at a state school. As the title says here are my stats:

MCAT: 31Q
sGPA: 4.00
cGPA: 3.99

In terms of extracurriculars I feel like I'm pretty well off:

- 1 year of BME lab research
- 2 years of independent neurology research
- shadowed in primary care, orthopaedics, radiology
- volunteered in free clinics and hospital
- created an after school program for elementary school children
- teach Spanish to ex-convicts at a local transition center
- private tutor in summers and winter break
- created health literacy and education program for uninsured/impoverished patients
- co-editor for STEM in undergraduate research journal
- vice president of an organization that raises supplies for clinics/schools in Guatemala
- advocacy committee chair of UNICEF chapter at my school

The only thing I feel weighing me down is my MCAT score, but oh well.

Here's my list:

VCU
UVA
EVMS
George Washington
Georgetown
Northwestern
UIC
UMaryland
UChicago
Rush Medical College
Duke
UNC

Any feedback appreciated.

Thanks!

MCAT is well below avg for some of the top tier schools you've listed, and so I'd be more confident by sticking to the mid-tiers. That GPA has to count for something, though.

Suggest:
VCU
UVA
EVMS
George Washington
Georgetown
Northwestern
UMaryland
Rush Medical College
Duke (definitely try here!)
UNC
Wake-Forest
U MD
U WVa
E TN/Quillen (maybe)
ALL PA schools
BU

Definitely apply to more than 12 schools!

I actually have a guaranteed seat at one of the med schools that I listed, so not too incredibly worried if my app is a little top heavy. But I will definitely include some pennsylvania schools and some of the others suggested.

Which school?
They let you apply to other schools and you still get to keep that spot?

+1 to this question

If your seat is absolutely guaranteed, it seems unlikely they'll let you apply to other schools and use them as a backup. Of the schools that I know that guarantee spots (mainly BS/MD programs), applying voids the guarantee, and you need to reapply to that medical school like every other applicant.

Don't want to disclose the specific school for privacy reasons but yes they let you apply out and keep your seat. It's probably not common, but this school does it indeed. A big reason why I chose them for undergrad as well.
