I'd say go for it! I have a family friend who is a pharmacist and he was always interested in doing medicine and after so many years of working as a pharmacist, began studying for medicine and is now practicing.I think he started when he was around 40.If thats what your true passion is,never look back and go for it.Just do it!

Here's a way to look at it. You're going to be in your mid to late 30s when you finish medical school. You're going to be in your mid to late 30s in a few years anyway (with or without medical school), so why not reach your late 30s equipped with a medical degree? Go for it!

Just out of curiousity, why are you planning to switch? What is it that you don't like about being a pharmacist?

The pay duh lol.. jk

maybe for the added excitement of being able to save lives on the daily bases?

Honestly I don't think it is the pay b/c pharmacists get paid quite a bit w/o residency/fellowship training.

I started med school at 36 - it's harder getting in, but once you're in... The supportive husband makes all the difference! Good luck!:luck:

Hey, why is it difficult to get in? And i wonder if its going to be an issue explaning why so many career swithces... pharmacy... management... phamacy again.... then Med School???

Definitely not too old :) I'll (hopefully) be entering med school at 28, and I want to be a specialist...so I won't be done with everything until about 36ish. :) You'll be fine.

I got into a couple of different medical schools last year and at the last minute thought about how much time I would spend in school/work and decided pharmacy was the best option for me, & now I am a first year pharmacy student. You know as a pharmacist you can become a pharmacist practitioner and prescribe drugs, the whole nine yards. I wouldn't turn my back on pharmacy quite yet if I were you. Explore all your options thoroughly. Think about how much time you want to spend in school and how much of your life with friends, family, travel, exploration, and did I mention life you will be missing out on if you are tied down to school for another ten years. It's not a light decision, especially since you already have gone through so much advanced schooling. Also, don't forget to think about all the debt you will be in. With your age and education there is no reason you can have to say that you overlooked these things. I hope you find what you are looking for. :)

The bumper sticker advice works for me !!! :)))

it motivates me too! because I have never  to nobody!!

I could not stand not being the highest degree level in the hospital and I love working in a hospital...

Ha! Unfortunately the hierarchy is just beginning! Wait until we are interns and have to use our  to check out prostates.

Wait...I guess that proves you're point; it will be the patient bowing.

Seriously, there will always be a pecking order no matter the profession. Once we are doctors, there will be specialists that are "higher up". Once we are specialists, there will be sub-specialists that have more training, etc, etc.

Either way, I think going from PharmD to M.D. is a good move. I was going to go PharmD after getting out of the military, and then I volunteered in the pharmacy and hated it. Just not for me, but I respect the Pharms.

Go for it!!! People who chase after their dreams always have my respect. Yes, having a BS is always an advantage. Wait, which country are you from? Because you would need to have BS degree in order to get into med schools here in the US.

It would feel a little awkward at first but you're going to get used to it. The oldest one in our batch is now in her mid 30's, and we're gonna be graduating next year.

Good luck on the test! I hope you can make it this time.

Why does it say you are a pharmacy student.....doesnt sound like you have given any career a chance...what makes you think being a doc is so much better?

You would presumably know more than me, but I don't think this is true. I thought that a BA is just fine for medical, assuming that someone has completed the prereqs.

Oops. Typo. I meant Bachelors, not BS. Sorry.

And what makes you think I havent given any career a chance? Thats weird, its all that you had to write in response to the post. You think I am just passing my time leaving posts not of any consequence to me?
I have no such time.. may be you do..

To old at 32? Please. I am 52. After being a lawyer for 20 years I decided to do society a favor and take one lawyer out of circulation and add one doctor. :)

So, for the last three years I took all the science prerequisites and the MCAT while continuing to work 50 hours a week. On October 21st I was accepted to medical school. I start August 2010 a month shy of my 53rd birthday.

If you want it bad enough and are willing to work hard enough, you can do it.

Good luck.

Not at all. Go for it, if that is what you want but just know that you probably have a long road ahead of you. 4+3 years (minimum).
