Hi guys, anybody here interviewed for this cycle know how long the day will be? I might need to schedule a flight out that night and will need to make arrangements.

Another thing, for the 2nd year rotations at those CHC, how will we be studying for lectures? Will it just be online? Thanks!

From the interview confirmation: "please check in no later than 7:30am. The interview process begins promptly at 7:45 am and concludes at 1:30 pm."

Placed my acceptance fee in! Anyone else trying to get in Phoenix CHCs? Looks like most of the 3rd year rotations are at one of the Adelante clinics, and the 4th year rotations at the Maricopa County and clinics with the community specialists.

I'll be paying my acceptance fee today as well--and am looking to get into the Phoenix CHC! Looks like we'll be classmates--and maybe CHC friends!

My top choice is Tucson because of the opportunities to work in various hospitals. Anyone else wanting Tucson? :)

Are CHC assignments made based on the acceptance fee payment or pre-reg payment or both?

I think it's the acceptance fee payment. Yeah. From Dolores: "CHC assignments are made in the order that the first deposits ($1000 acceptance payment) are received."

I am wondering about the clerkships during the 3rd and 4th year. Are they usually completed at the CHC or the hospitals in the city where the CHC is located? What about the quality of these clerkships? Any input will help!
@SLC

So, rotations and clerkships are the same thing. Second year, we are at the clinic 4-8 hours a week to start our clinical exposure. 3rd and 4th year, we have rotations just like other medical schools. These rotations are at the CHC, local hospitals, and other health centers. I don't know much about the quality of the rotations because I'm not at that point yet. However, upperclassmen have told us that they are guided by great preceptors.

Is there any weekly clinic 4-8 hrs/week commitment in the 3rd and 4th year when we are on the rotations?

How long did it take for you guys to hear back on the committees decision after you interviewed?

I'm practicing for my MMI right now and it's tougher than I thought. How stressful was the interview process for everyone?

I have an MMI book by Dr. Samir Desai. It's a great book. I'm going over the sample scenarios and saying my responses out loud and then I read what the sample responses were. I've been stumped a few times, but articulating a concise and eloquent response is the real challenge. I think I'll be fine overall, but definitely saying more uhhhs and umms than I would like.

Of the 3 interviews I've done, this was my favorite. The environment felt very low-stress and welcoming. Super chill.

Dr. Desai's book helped me tremendously, especially to get into that mind set. Don't worry too much. The act of preparing itself will get you through this with flying colors!

Seriously: just have fun! The interview is just a good time, so relax and answer honestly and to the best of your ability. It's a long day but it's a good time!

I went through the 2014-2015 and the 2015-2016 application thread for this school and everybody seemed to like the 2nd year CHC rotations, but is anybody concerned about the quality of the 2nd year lectures? I also see that the residents matched into some top quality residency programs.

Is there any group studying or anything like that? I'm concern about the self studying, although there are definite benefits about not having to sit in a lecture hall all day. Is the communication to the professor just one way? What if I had concerns about the material or needed extra clarification? I haven't even interviewed yet, but just voicing some concerns after some research.

Welp, this school was great on interview day but unfortunately I will be withdrawing my acceptance here. Hope it goes to one of you guys! Best of luck!

The Clinical Presentation/CHC model requires students to be "independent learners, self-motivators, and multi-taskers." This will be questioned during the interview. From what I've read, the 2nd year podcasts are all online, and the professors are very open to receiving questions from students and try to get back asap. No one knows you better than yourself, so you have to ask yourself if you have the aforementioned qualities required to be successful at SOMA. Good luck :)

Current 1st year. Just checking in if anyone has any questions they're dying to know.

Does anyone know if admissions will reconsider their gpa minimum? I graduated Magna for my BS but my overall from junior colleges is below the threshold. Is it worth contacting admissions to request a reevaluation?

I got an email just now and I think I just got assigned to the Mesa/Phoenix CHC!? :)
