Just keep in mind that while they may "take them", it does not imply that they view them as equivalent to USMLE scores. Some programs state that they "accept/take" COMLEX, but may be less likely to interview/highly rank a DO applicant who has not taken the USMLE. Hell, I even recall the PD of an ACGME program (very DO friendly) specifically state that DO students should take the USMLE...the program's website said the same thing many of them do - they accept/take/recognize COMLEX.

Hopefully that makes sense.

University of Illinois at Peoria accepts COMLEX... and is one of the ACGME programs with a DO program director.

hoping to bump this/add more to it. could not find a list like this anywhere on emra. have heard there are previous threads that have a good listing of all of the COMLEX-friendly ACGME programs, but this is the best I could find!

I completely agree with this. It cannot be emphasized enough that a program saying they "take COMLEX" means little to nothing. To actually find ACGME programs that will accept qualified applicants with only a COMLEX, the only reliable ways is to really know of residents who have done so in the past. Some programs that have been historically AOA programs and those that select DOs on a regular basis (several per class every year) may have more experience with this. I would guess 90% of the programs on that list would not offer a DO student an interview with only a COMLEX regardless how good it is. Please do yourself a favor and disregard this post, take the USMLE if you think you can do at least avg and if not, try your best at the COMLEX and apply AOA.

My program has taken people recently with COMLEX only. I still fully recommend taking USMLE if you are planning on applying ACGME. Just take it and be done with it.

would you mind sharing which program that is? I took comlex 2 months ago and was happy with it. canceled step 1 a week before because I wasn't where i wanted to be and had no more time to study (was only given 2 weeks of interrupted because my school is awesome)-at this point I feel I'm too deep into rotations to be able to get a step 1 score that I want. Plan on taking step 2-just trying to explore my options and DO friendly programs to pull a list of places to contact together.
