i was just curious.... is it possible for someone to cause acute renal failure in herself by voluntarily holding her urine for long periods of time (like 14 hours). ie post

can one cause other types of pathology (other than a uti) by holding urine like that? what kind of damage would this do?

No, it would be pretty impossible to cause significant ARF by voluntarily holding urine for that short of an amt of time. A day or two of retention is a different story.
Can you cause other damage by holding your urine that long?? Of course-the bladder was not meant to get that distended, over time you could have severe voiding dysfunction, bladder failure and retention (and then acute renal failure)

yikes, thats what i thought. thanks
