I am looking for a resident who wants to learn . I am the new AEGD Director with 20 plus years of teaching AEGD at the University level.

My AEGD facility is all new! It is the hidden Jewel of the Midwest.

The AEGD program is well equiped with cone beam and has all the whistles and bells. You will have your own office and plenty of space. The equipment is all new in an all new building. It is the prettiest AEGD I have ever seen! GME stipend and no tuition is required by the university.

Here is a little background about myself.
I have an AEGD certificate, a MS in combined prosthodontics and an implantology preceptorship in Oral Surgery . I have been visiting faculty to 14 universities providing accredited CE. I can teach you a lot on both implant placement and restoration.I can teach you how to place implants free handed or CAD/CAM guided. The strength of our program is diagnosis and treatment planning. We have an amazing faculty that are just as enthusiastic . The attending faculty are private practicioners . You will get a lot of mentoring from "real world" dentists and specialists. We are very ,very close to a private pracitice in clinic feel. There are no other resident specialists to split patient care.We treat the patients comprehensively, within the scope of general dentistry. We do our own implants, grafts, molar endo and oral surgery. We treat start to finish, but we also know when to refer to specialists.

Our program is in suburbia. There are great places to eat, shop and live withinin a mile. Our clinic has beautiful gardens and manicured grass. The floors shine spotlessly and the clinic is "hospital clean" to the white glove.Patients can drive right up to the front door to park. We have very nice patients who seek out our clinic to get the university touch.

Email me at dean.elledge "at" wichita.edu if you want to go to the next level, I have never had a resident who said " it wasn't the best choice of my career"

Call ,email, or text me if you have any questions or need some help deciding.

Thank you .

Just something else for anybody who is interested to consider.....my name is Qi Wang and Dean was my mentor when I was an AEGD resident for 2 years. I absolutely loved working with him and he is probably one of the best teachers and clinicians I ever met. He knows so much about implants, fixed or removable prosthodontics, surgical procedures including guided tissue regenerations, treatment planning, and just so much dentistry whether it is complex or more straight forward. He is also so good at explaining things and really puts his residents first. Anyway, it was for sure one of my best career decisions. Go for it, you won't regret it!

I completed a one-year AEGD in 2012. Dr Dean Elledge is a great person, a highly qualified teacher, and he will make a great AEGD Director. He is a knowledgeable prosthodontist with a lot of experience in both surgical and restorative dental implantology. He has been a great mentor to me for the past few years and any recent grad will benefit from working with him in Wichita.

I know someone who is interested in the program and I'm waiting to hear back from them. I am passing this information along. Thanks for the input. I also emailed Dr. Elledge.

I also completed a 1 year AEGD program in 2012 and was privileged enough to work with Dr. Elledge. He is an exceptional instructor and his compassion for his students, as well as his passion for teaching set him apart. His enthusiasm for dentistry is contagious and no problem is ever too hard to solve. His upbeat attitude is a breath of fresh air and he is very easy to connect with, always staying on a student’s level of understanding. He has extensive experience placing and restoring dental implants as well as with treatment planning complex rehabilitation cases. He thinks outside of the box and helps his students to break out of the more rigid “dental school” mindset, allowing for professional growth that helps students transition into the “real world” of private practice. I would definitely recommend Dr. Elledge and any AEGD program that he is a part of.

I can honestly say that completing the one year AEGD program in 2012 was one of the best decision I could have made for my career. It was a wonderful experience and a privilege to have worked side by side with Dr. Elledge.

As a person, Dr. Elledge is positive, enthusiastic, encouraging, and easy to approach. He genuinely cares for you and wants you to succeed. He continually provides motivation and inspiration.

As mentor, Dr. Elledge is always willing to help, even if during lunch or after clinic hours. With his vast experience and knowledge, he has helped students through many tough cases. He has an outstanding history of implant placement, surgical techniques, and implant restoration. He has a true passion for teaching and loves to share his knowledge and skills on to students.

As a clinician, Dr. Elledge's work is top notch. From his treatment planning of complex cases, to hand skills, to patient chair side manners, it is a pleasure and honor to see him work and work on cases together.

I highly recommend students to apply to his AEGD program. You will not regret it.

My piece of advice for anyone reading this thread: if you are considering contacting Dr. Elledge about this residency, do it! You will not regret completing an AEGD. I completed a two year AEGD residency under Dr. Elledge. Everyday that I work, I am grateful for the time I spent in residency.

Dr. Elledge is a great restorative dentist. From easy to complex, he makes it all look like a breeze. I learned everything I know about seating crowns from Dr. Elledge. He is also a fantastic surgical dentist. Dr. Elledge has a vast knowledge on extractions, alveoplasty, bone grafts, socket preservations and implants. Dr. Elledge uses all of his knowledge and background to mentor you from treatment planning to finishing the easiest or very complex dental case. Dr. Elledge knows what techniques work for him, but he is not afraid to try something knew.

You can learn a lot about dentistry from Dr. Elledge. You can also learn a lot about how to interact with patients from Dr. Elledge. He is also a very caring person who wants every student/resident to learn and be successful. He is a great resource. If you have the opportunity to work with Dr. Elledge, don't pass it up!

Interesting how all these people are posting their life changing experiences as their first ever post

Can you help me get into dental school?

Please

Where is this program located and is it on PASS?

I have also completed a 1 year AEGD with Dr. Elledge and the amount of knowledge you will take away from him is truly unreal. Would recommend it in the highest regard!!!!

Bman 1047-
My program is in Wichita Kansas. It's a very tidy city of about 350k .It is cheap to live here and there is lots to do.( I only recently moved here too)
We take pass or you can apply directly to " Wichita AEGD"
PASS is simpler, as everything is together

You need to get your PASS application in before Oct 1.

We will be doing the the first round on interviews in late November.

I hope to get to know more about your accomplishments

I wanted to give an update on our mentoring specialists and their expertise for the upcoming year
1- two endodontists- every Thursday
2- periodontist - (prior graduate perio univ faculty at other school) 2 full days per week- all Day Monday and ,wed am and thursday Am
3- two Prosthodoontists - total 5 full days -
4- several general dentists who are very strong and diverse in esthetic and restorative procedures- itero/ serac

this means - You can place implants, graft,or do surgical extractions 4 days per week. Restore implants 5 days per week.

We run our treatment plans by the specialists and they explain all the stuff we are missing! It is a great way to learn. The resident round tables the patient care conference with the faculty. We do this Monday through Thursday 8-9am. Resident then goes to clinic and discusses the treatment plan with the patient. Resident executes the plan and asks for help when desired. (We dont leave you you hanging on something you have never done. like drilling holes in bone, flaps ,grafting and sequencing files in mystery canals. For example , last week the endodontist identified several missed canals that were not obvious and periodontists told me why my sugggested crown lengthening was going to fail based on root -bone morphology.
We share no patients with any other residents. We are the only stand alone clinic in the US ,that I am aware . We are not attached to a dental school or hospital.
It is the most similar to a private practice. We do not do IV or medically compromised, like
a GPR.

We are teaching general dentistry. For example, I will teach you how to extract the root, graft the hole(GTR), place the implant and restore it. I let the surgeons do the wisdom teeth, but if I pull a central who would be better to restore it?

google " wichita AEGD" check out out our facebook.

I have one opening this summer for a graduate of a CODA accredited dental school . Our AEGD program at Wichita State University starts July 2019.
If you follow this thread,Everything is in inline with prior posts by me. We are always improving and have added an oral surgeon for the (crown to root impacted) wisdom teeth plus all the expertise he brings. In brief: we are a 1 year residency, but we do just about everything a two year aegd resident would do.We do implant site development, place and restore implants. Each resident places 8- 16 implants. All implants are restorative driven ( Nobel DTX software). We have a 3 shape scanner that can be used in the DTX design studio for digital waxing and surgical guide design. Traditional Crown and bridge can also be scanned.
We have 6 residents each year. If you treatment plan the patient, you will get to do the work yourself. There are no other residents to take the case away from you. If you get stuck( ledged canal, broken deep root, unseated crown or bridge, caries into biologic width, etc etc....our multispecialty faculty( endo, perio, pros,OS) are there to help you.
Talk to our current or prior residents. email [email protected] and our staff member , Abby Black, will connect you with a resident for the "real story"
I feel like we have an amazing program and amazing residents.

Does this program accept International student?? I am a foreign-trained Orthodontist and would like to enroll in anAEGD program.

Hello:
Our residency is like a private dental office, in the requirement that you need a Kansas Dental License to be in our residency. It's a state law in Kansas. You will need to have passed a national boards and have a regional US board. It is because there are no dental schools in Kansas.
Thank you for your questions.

I was reading about the challenges and struggles for new dentists on this site. The words I read are " not fun"

However.....

You MUST get skills that the others don't have, then you will flourish. You can get better with out getting bigger.

In a good residency you will get skills that you can't get off of a lifetime of classroom CE, because you can get immediate clinical feedback. That is what I did. I got my AEGD in 2014 after practicing for over 20 years. My income then doubled, because I did the work i used to refer..and I loved it.

Here are examples from the last few days of things my residents did in the clinic.
1- broken bur into throat was recovered in a dry shield- residents are kept safe!
2-Complex molar endo needed 6 " one on one" mentoring tips- residents get help form endodontist when they want it
3- How to position the PT, How to use the assistant for vision so you can see what you are doing,
FYI: I took CE for over 20 years.. I was stagnant...then my private practice doubled AFTER AEGD, because I became implant surgical prosthodontist
4- Fixed prosth takes 80 MENTORED preps- ( like a prosth resident, young dentists need tips from my prosth residency)
5-removable_ what to do with a flat ridge and pt cant do implants because of medical or finances? I teach this..we have several ongoing... an alginate and a blue bite is not going to work.
6- I critique all your surgical guides- NOT an an online rep
7- We have a sim lab that we use- last week it was " retraction retainer for fixed", next week it is " cutting flutes when you have decay into the furca" then " how to make a crown to an existing clasp" I published in the JPD on this...although i changed my technique since the publication
8- here is a tip ... resident struggled 3 min trying to get flap raised, " if you move the periosteal to horizontal ,small end, then lever off the tooth..its up in 30 sec"
9- Implant dentistry is more the drilling holes...we teach a perio - prosth method. We flap, place guide to not hurt KG,place implant, remove guide, test and suture.( I teach you how to "set" the suture)

these are my thoughts...

I hope you are enjoying your Sunday, I am just making a post before today's Chiefs Football.

Hello Dr. Elledge,

I was wondering why did you choose to complete an AEGD instead of a GPR? I am currently a first year student, and I am trying to gain as much information as possible before deciding on a residency program.

Best,

Podyi

Choose the program ,not the acronym. Some AEGD's are better than some GRP's and vice versa. Each one is unique and faculty can change yearly.

I sorta think the GPRs tend to be more FQHIC based and their associated hospitals, there is a lot of variance.
