Greetings,

I am sure alot of people have questions about what is the most ideal residency program after dental school. For those who are interested about applying and wanted to know more about VA hospital settings in general, don't hesitate to message me. I am currently AEGD resident within the VA hospital in Wisconsin (looking to stay for a second year as well!) and can not be any more happier to decide into making a choice to do a residency program let alone within the VA Hospital system.

What has your clinical experience been so far?

Currently the program I am in Wisconsin is the Green Bay site, which is associated with the Milwaukee VA Hospital. It is a new program with brand new facilities. My experience expands all facets of Dentistry, except obviously Ortho and Pedo. My schedule includes block sections with full time specialists which include Endo, Perio, Prostho, Restorative and Oral surgery. Great thing about this schedule you have weekly individual time with a specialist to work on advanced cases and really get a grasp on cases you don't get to do so often. If you know anything about the VA system, you would find out that there is ALOT of complex cases that walk into the clinic, so when you actually sit down to do your initial exam, it really challenges you how to tx plan the case. Good thing about the VA system, most of the Veterans are covered, so there is no limited tx plan like you have with insurance based. So ideal tx plan are emphasized for that Veteran, so to answer your question about clinical experience, it has been very expansive and integrated. I am in my 3rd month and currently seeing anywhere from 6-12 patients a day on average so far, and every week I am doing Endo, Perio, Prostho, Restorative and Oral Surgery. I am already feeling comfortable within each domain and it is still early within the program. I wish you best of luck into finding your ideal program and getting the experience you ask for.

Hi Cathelicidin, my wife is a FTD, and I would like to know how if she can apply there. If yes how difficult is to get into the program?

Thanks In Advance,

Adarsh USA,

I am assuming you are referring to the AEGD resident program position? It is pretty competitive program for being a strong program overall, especially now that they are expanding the program. Deadline is Oct. 15th via PASS non-match, so I encourage her to apply ASAP since they are reviewing applicants for interviews soon. Don't hesitate to inbox me for more questions. Best of luck!
