Allergy/Immunology Fellowship competitive?

I've always heard that this is one of the least competitive of the fellowships. The thread by ckent citing this, along with cardio and gastro as the most competitive caught me off guard. Is this true?

Yes its true.A few years ago you could not give allergy spots away.Then some programs closed down and with renewed interest in lifestyle friendly specialties Allergy has taken off in popularity.Many current allergists are older and close to retirement so there will be tremendous demand for this very highly competitive field.
