Just despicable.

A Michigan doctor who prosecutors allege got at least two patients addicted to prescription drugs and then demanded they have sex with him to get refills, faces at least 5 years in prison when he is sentenced Wednesday.

Dr. John Verbovsky, 67, was originally charged with 14 criminal counts, including rape. But in a plea agreement reached earlier this month, he pleaded guilty to one count of running a criminal enterprise, two counts of medical fraud and two counts of criminal sexual conduct in the fourth degree, an admission that he coerced two of his women patients into having sex. Those crimes are five-year, 15-year and 20-year felonies.

Verbovsky, an osteopath, ran the Progressive Family Medicine clinic in Sterling Heights, and the Stout Family Medicine clinic in Detroit.

Investigators say he prescribed highly addictive drugs to at least two of his patients -- and perhaps more -- and that once they became dependent upon the drugs, he demanded sexual acts and money in exchange for new prescriptions. He wrote prescriptions for pain medications, prosecutors said, without proof of a medical condition.

When investigators raided his office and confiscated his computers, they found one image of a woman, on her knees, bound and gagged.

The case was brought by the Michigan Attorney General's Office in February following a months long investigation. A spokesperson from that office earlier this week did not provide details of the plea agreement but noted that in addition to the criminal case, Verbovsky's license to practice medicine in Michigan had been permanently revoked.

Verbovsky's attorney, Charles Perlos, also declined to discuss the plea arrangement, except to say, "My client made a decision and we're moving ahead."

Verbovsky was taken into custody when he entered his plea on Sept. 3. He will be sentenced in Ingham County Circuit Court Sept. 30 at 1:15 p.m.

Think its more accurate to say it gives health care providers in general a bad name.

Now if he was running a sex trafficking operation and donating profits to the AOA, that would be giving DO's specifically a bad name.

And there is the case of Munir Marwan Uwaydah MD:

'You idiots! What did you do?': Grand jury testimony in insurance fraud case is released
September 28, 2015, 4:00 AM

Jennifer Milone woke up from shoulder surgery in excruciating pain. Her temperature spiked. Her wound swelled.
After six weeks, she worried she had gangrene and returned to the clinic where she'd had the operation.
A physician assistant told her it looked as if there was still a stitch in her skin.
"Just hang on," he said. "I'm going to pull."
She watched as he extracted 24 inches of oozing gauze from her shoulder.
"You idiots!" she screamed. "What did you do?"
Milone gave the account during testimony before a grand jury this year as the Los Angeles County district attorney's office investigated what prosecutors now call one of the largest insurance fraud schemes in California history...
Milone testified about her experience at a clinic run by Dr. Munir Uwaydah, who prosecutors allege was the mastermind of the suspected scheme.
Milone was one of 21 patients who prosecutors say suffered lasting scars or other injuries as a result of surgeries at Uwaydah's clinics.
Prosecutors also allege that a physician assistant who never went to medical school often operated on patients who thought Uwaydah was doing their surgeries...
More than $150 million was fraudulently billed to insurance companies, the district attorney's office alleged, saying those involved hid the money in shell bank accounts.

@costales , I can't believe that story is real! What a terrifying situation.

"Verbovsky, an osteopath..."

Everyone knows osteopaths can't prescribe meds in this country.
