Has anyone tried taking vitamins and/or Neuro optimizers for sharper brain function ?
If yes which once ? Do you think they work?

Yes, I used something called music. :p

But seriously, medicine is no substitute for actually learning the information. If it's legal and you think it helps you, why not. Otherwise, just hit the books and remind yourself that the study period is only temporary. You'll do fine, friend.

How do you think this helped you? I'm a daily drinker and I see no future of quitting, especially once I start dental school.

I think everyone is different. Adding exercise is probably your best fuel, for me it keeps me focused. I`ve never used caffeine while studying, again I think its up to the person.

It is probably more to do with how I use coffee. I use coffee to stay awake and get that extra hours of study. I find that it is more effectively for me to just sleep and tackle the material the next day. I find that increases my comprehension of the material and that increases my performance better than covering more topics would.

I would not play with those. Just study. If you want to optimize brain function, stop drinking coffee. Drink lots of water and herbal tea. Caffeine actually reduced my concentration. I gained it back after giving it up.

I highly disagree. I'm not aware of any evidence that states coffee actually reduces brain function. I drank coffee nearly everyday when studying for my DATs and was more than happy with my performance. Specifically, I used caffeine (coffee) + L-theanine regularly, both of which are naturally occurring substances in tea. Several studies suggest the combination improves cognition:

Now, I'm not recommending you do the same, I'm just providing my personal experience. Cheers.

A friend of mine is in optometry school and she swears by them especially this brand. I also think coffee increases brain function but to each is own. I never drink caffein unless I'm studying.

Green smoothies. Crap load of veggies (usually kale), a banana and some fruit (usually strawberries), two scoops of whey protein and two servings of flax seed oil. 500-600 calories right there. Kept my mood in check and gave me some natural fuel. Add in a few work outs here and there to release stress.

I wouldn't play with anything else if I was you. The test isn't that serious and I wouldn't like wondering if I could have done the exam without some pills.

lol, DodgeDDS with the goods. But in all seriousness, how people survive without caffeine (especially those in science) or any kind of natural stims is beyond me.

I skim through most of the article you posted, and it seems like the combined effects mostly improves alertness and concentration (but I don't know how statistically significant these data are in the first place because I don't know how to interpret them). One of the article clearly shows that this won't help with the PAT, though (lol). It said it won't help with visual ability, mental rotation, and choice making. I usually don't have much of a problem with concentration, but it won't hurt to experiment on myself. Most theanine are sold in bulks, and I can't find any vendors selling low quantity. I might just try mixing green tea with coffee at first if I can't find any low-cost theanine. I will report back in 3 weeks!
