Man, I need to stay away from this site at least until after New Year's... because I seriously don't think there will be any decisions until after the 3rd.

It's like I believe I can make myself get accepted by reading old threads here... hahaha.

Good luck to everyone, again - and here's hoping for quick (good) decisions!

Congrats. Can you tell us when you submitted and when you found out?

@Fall2012 - I got into Emory BSHE, first acceptance! Woooo, I am so excited!
My stats are earlier on this thread.

Does anyone else find it strange that we have so many fewer posts than those from 2011 fall accepted posts same time last year?

Is no one interested in public health anymore??

I think the economy pushed a lot of people to go back to school and now that it is improving the applications are decreasing. The year I applied (2010) had more apps than most of the years before it. I did notice that applications did go down last year and I would not be surprised if they are even lower this year.

Congratulations Drivers.. What a great way to begin the new year.

How did you hear from them. by email or Opus?

I also applied to Emory but to Global health department. I'm so anxious now that you've gotten your decision. Weeew.

I hope I hear from them sooner.

It was actually via email, they haven't updated my OPUS yet. I wish you luck in hearing from them ASAP:)

@Drivers.. Congrats.. We are on the same track. I also got admit from Emory BSHE :) .. Not updated on OPUS though..
SOPHAS mailed on 15th November. Emory mailed me on 8th December that they got my application. Got admit on 3rd January. This info is for Dr Rayden:)

I also just heard from emory's epi dept for MPH. Well the updated on opus and I hadn't checked opus in several days so they could have told me a while ago... but at any rate, I applied in mid Nov, in early Dec they told me my application was complete and would be reviewed, and opus was updated recently. :). I didn't receive an email yet saying that I was accepted but all of the stuff, including the acceptance letter, is already posted on opus. So I guess whether they email or opus first depends on the dept and things.

I'll echo breexox by saying that I didn't get an email or a snail mail acceptance packet from Emory's GH program. My online acceptance letter was updated on Opus in the last day or two though.

I submitted my applications through SOPHAS on 10/3, they were mailed out on 10/20, Emory received mine on 12/7, and it was under review on 12/12.

It's great to hear that folks are already starting to get news. Good luck everyone!

Congrats to everyone on their Emory acceptances! I'm a current first year in the Global Epidemiology department, I was originally in Global Health and am happy help if you have any questions about either Epi or GH, or Rollins in general.

Feel free to send me a PM.

Good luck to everyone!

Just got my acceptance from Emory's MPH in epidemiology program!! I'm so excited, since it was one of my top choices. Here are my stats:
GRE: 164Q, 169V
GPA: 3.9 (B.Sc. in medicinal chemistry), 3.9 (Ph.D. in organic chemistry, which I'm just finishing up my thesis for now)
Experience: no public health experience, but I did 3 summers of research in chemistry labs in undergrad, plus my Ph.D. research experience, also laboratory based.
Still waiting on: BU, GWU, Tulane, Yale, Columbia, UMinn

SOPHAS mailed my application to Emory on 12/13, it was received by the epidemiology department on 12/21 and got the decision on OPUS today (01/05). I didn't get an email notifying me of the decision, and I tried to not check OPUS everyday, so it may have been there earlier. I'm happily surprised that they got back to me so quickly, given the holidays!

Question for other Emory people: did anyone get notified about merit awards? I didn't see anything about it on OPUS, so I'm wondering if I just didn't get one, or if we'll be notified later.

Good luck to everyone else!

Congrats Epinerd! I can help with this, merit scholarships are not given until later (around March, a few weeks before Visit Emory). I received one last year and my experience differed a little from the website info and from a couple of the other people who received them so I don't think there is a hard-and-fast-rule on the entire process.

It is definite that everyone whose application is received before the deadline is considered. From what I understand, each department puts forward a number of "top applicants" for consideration. From there a review board chooses to either interview or award the scholarship (I was not interviewed, but I know others that were - their interviews were by phone). I was notified the first week of March about my scholarship and was offered a small stipend for travel to attend Visit Emory which is a 2 day pre-orientation for accepted students.

Because it came up last year: we were told that if someone does not accept their scholarship then the funds are reassigned to another student, the deadline to accept is not until May 1 (or it was last year), so theoretically you could hear then if you receive a re-assigned scholarship. I don't think this is common though.

There is a website: http://www.sph.emory.edu/cms/current_students/scholarships.html that lists the scholarships available, there are not very many, but the "scholars in action" program (as they call it) is really great and provides a lot of quality opportunities. Good luck!

Emory (besides the global health department) generally sends merit notices later.

Emory Global health dept should learn from what others are doing.

They are making me nervous

Hey everyone! I think a lot of acceptances/rejections will be coming in soon, so I wanted to stop lurking and come out of the woodwork and encourage others to do the same.

My stats:

Currently in final year of undergrad at well-known research university
Spanish Major
3.46 GPA
My GRE score was TERRIBLE (1080), 4.5 W (I am not a math person)
4 letters of rec
Intern at grassroots health organization
Volunteer abroad
Looking to study health behavior and education (MPH)

Accepted: Tulane, Emory
Rejected: UMinn :(
Waiting: UMich, UCLA

I hope everyone is hearing good things, and I am realizing that even if I don't get accepted anywhere else, I will have a hard decision to make. Anyone know how to make it any easier? Thanks!

Accepted into Yale MPH program for Chronic Disease Epidemiology today! My first acceptance. I applied to U Minn, UCLA, UIC, Johns Hopkins, Columbia, and U Mich.

SOPHAS was mailed in the beginning of December. GPA is around a 3.6, and GRE is 1410. I have a good science background, did some tutoring, and volunteering in the hospital as well. Good luck everyone!

Hi everyone! Thought I'd get my stats out here, now that we're starting to receive responses from schools.

My stats:

Currently serving Peace Corps Volunteer (health and HIV/AIDS program)
International work/education/volunteer experience
GRE: 320; 4.5 AW
GPA: 3.66 when I graduated, but 3.96 according to WES
LOR: Peace Corps program director, 2 college professors

Accepted: Tulane (Global Community Health and Behavioral Sciences), Emory (Global Health)

Only applied to those two programs, so now I just have to decide (and submit financial aid applications)!

Good luck to everyone still awaiting decisions and congrats to those with acceptances!

How long after receiving the completed app email from Yale did you get accepted?

I was complete on Dec. 20th, and accepted today. I'm not sure how long they actually considered my application due to the holiday break.
