RACE: White
GENDER: male
STATE: CA
YEAR: Graduated early 2016.
GPA: 3.83c/3.86s (currently taking 1 lab prereq at a CC, GPA unlikely to change significantly).
MCAT: 35 (12/11/12) PS/VS/BS
VOLUNTEERING: Hospital volunteering 4hr/week for a little more than 1 year at applying.
Part of on campus volunteer club for 2 years (president for 1 year) that serves the underserved.
CLINICAL EXPERIENCES: Medical scribe 16hr/week should be approx 500 hours at applying (now over 1000 hours).
SHADOWING: A few days at a few different specialties, nothing fantastical
RESEARCH: NONE
OTHER ECs: I play a little golf, and run.
WORK: Waiter at a wedding venue for 4 summers upon applying. High amount of contact with hundreds of new people every wedding (2-3 per week). I also exhibited some leadership here.

LOR:
2 science faculty (one said they wrote a "very strong" letter).
1 non-science (medium level)
1 volunteering letter from my hospital (no idea how good)
1 from my work of 4 years (strong)

School list:

  • Albert Einstein
  • Drexel
  • Emory
  • Geisel
  • Hofstra
  • Keck - University of Southern California
  • New York Medical College (NYMC)
  • New York University
  • Oakland University William Beaumont
  • Quinnipiac
  • Saint Louis
  • The Ohio State Univ.
  • Tufts
  • Tulane (rejected post-secondary, and this is the only rejection)
  • UC San Diego
  • UCLA David Geffen (Secondary received and complete early October).
  • UC Davis
  • UC Irvine
  • UC Riverside
  • University of Cincinnati
  • University of Rochester
  • Mayo (Applied mid September)

With the two exceptions listed above (Mayo,UCLA) all my secondaries were in Late July to mid Auguest

I have one II at NYMC for January.

Does this bode very poorly for my application? Should I be planning for a gap year and an MCAT retake (as mine will expire)?

Ask us again after Thanksgiving.

In the mean time, patience is a virtue, the need for instant gratification is not.
