What are some appropriate uses for CME allowance?

Let's say I'm hospital employed with a generous $10,000 in CME allowance. What sort of things can this be used for?

Airfare?
Hotels?
Meals?
How about brining family members?

You cannot use it for family members or any activities that are not educational. I would bet that your institution has a written policy on how it can and cannot be used, which will be more useful than our input since it varies between institutions.

That being said, you can use it for boards, medical licenses, ATLS/ACLS/etc, memberships to societies (which is much more expensive once your done with training), educational travel (conferences, etc), and office stuff (books, computers, etc).

$10,000 sounds like a lot, but you'll be surprised how fast you blow through that if you're in a lot of clubs and going to conferences.
