Operational billet "leadership" positions.

This email was sent to me by my former partner who still had 10 months left on active duty. Names redacted. Just how out of touch is army medical leadership with those in the trenches?

Wow, I'd better not miss the deadline. Or I might miss this amazing
opportunity.

I got that one. I like this one better:

If you are on any civilian committee's (AAO, AAP, etc) or groups - please let me know the exact name of the committee and your anticipated timing on that committee. The DOD is starting to find its JAG officer's reinterpreting statutes in a way that restricts our ability to travel and function on these committees. The AMEDD has taken the position that membership on these groups not only has a strong historical basis but is also important to our overall mission. The Army Medical Corps leadership is spearheading a process to make these memberships official designations that will clarify things for our various JAG teams.

Followed by this one:

Classification: UNCLASSIFIED

Caveats: NONE

If any of you are on a national committee you must get it cleared through

the AMEDD and serve in a non-official capacity (meaning no TDY, no funding).

I could make comments, but I won't.

Please use the excel spreadsheet and provide the information to XXXX.

There is a short suspense date on this and it is being emphasized. Please

do it at your earliest convenience. There is no need to inform me

personally just XXXX.

Thank you as always,

XXXX

Take home message: don't belong to a professional committee that might draw praise and/or notoriety for the Army and it's officers. If you do, you'll be paying out of pocket. Because you know how these non-paying, thankless positions could easily be mistaken for some form of bribery....So while it's historically been important to AMEDD, the greater Army feels that you shouldn't try to advance your profession. You should be an officer who happens to have medicine as a hobby. That's Army Strong...
