Im lost here. OF ALL THE THINGS facing the modern practice of Pathology, the ASCP decides to tackle what? Declining reimbursements? Unfair contracting by major insurance payors? Consolidation of practices by large hospital systems? Decreased partnership level tracts for new hires? Overtraining?

They have decided it is better to try to get Bernie Sanders elected president using our money. If I could just pay my membership fees to a homeless man to prison rape me I would probably be better than with the ASCP.

I guess so...it's just a total WTF moment given all the problems Pathology faces in general. Let's stack more crap on the plate like Anti-2nd Amendment crap, Planned Parenthood support and Bernie Bros Money...from us....

I hate that politics has turned into this. If they did donate money, it's probably because they felt they had to donate money to every candidate, because unless you donate money your opinion is utterly worthless and you won't even get listened to.

This is my pet peeve. You cant win donating money to ANY candidate or political cause unless it is a direct impact on your trade group. Even IF the ASCP's chosen path is politically successful, they will gain nothing from it and have only managed to piss off 1/2 or more of their members.

They are amateurs. When you are running a professional trade group part of that is having the restraint to say to "I like this candidate, but I will use my own money AND influence not my group's money and influence to support him/her."

If you have ever attended an ASCP meeting, you will know that ASCP is probably the most openly socialist/leftist medical organization in existence. My jaw dropped the first time I went, and as a trainee I have been like 4 times. I have seen Bill Clinton speak, Hillary Clinton, actress Ashley Judd, and the people who run the organization openly espouse fanciful leftist ideas in their speeches.

If you attend, and you can get over the weirdness of the agenda (its just not my cup of tea), it will allow you to notice something even stranger still:

There are hordes of pathologists applauding. (Maybe not all pathologists. But hordes of attendees.)

It is strange.

Federal funds can't be used for abortion services. Personally, I think that's a crime.

Actually ASCP cannot support political candidates or give any members' $ toward this purpose and I couldn't find anything online to indicate they are supporting any candidate as an organization (as individuals, we all have our personal right to do so). They have 501(c)(3) non-profit status which prohibits this as well as the formation of a PAC. That was the reason CAP was created (originally out of ASCP) in 1946 and the proficiency programs given to CAP to help $ support this endeavor. CAP was incorporated with a different tax status so they can and do support political candidates and do have a PAC that members can donate to for this purpose. Obviously, the politics of the groups have changed somewhat and now they are two autonomous groups. And I would highly doubt that ASCP would publicly and unequivocally support Hillary Clinton's rival as they did invite her as a keynote 3 years ago in Chicago and also work with the Clinton Global Initiative on projects.

I'm not sure if its a crime but there was specific language (Stupak-Pitts Amendment) written into the PPACA/ACA/Obamacare to prohibit the use of federal funds for abortion services.

Unfortunately Democrat commies are even worse. Preserving freedom, liberty, pursuit of happiness and property seem to be in the best interest of all who wish to be self-reliant and free. Blah blah blah. I vote Dem all the time, yet I'm in no way reliant on government any more than you. I have plenty of freedom, property, liberty, and happiness as well. I'm also in no way communist. Tired tropes will get you nowhere. And abortion is one of the greatest advances for women in all of history, likely secondary only to birth control.
