Associate Chief Laboratory Medicine

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine and Boston Medical Center is recruiting an Associate Director for Laboratory Medicine. The clinical responsibilities will include professional oversight of the clinical pathology labs within the Department in addition to providing professional services to our affiliated community health centers. Approximately 25% effort will be spent on signout service in anatomic pathology including cytology. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated interest in teaching the next generation of pathologists, as well as medical students and graduate students. The candidate will not be expected to submit grants for extramural funding but there is an expectation of scholarly activity including the submission of manuscripts. Candidates with experience in transfusion medicine, quality assurance or clinical informatics are encouraged to apply. The academic rank will depend on the credentials of the applicant.

Boston Medical Center was formed by the merger of the historic Boston City Hospital and Boston University Hospital in 1996. We are a non-profit 496 bed academic medical center located in the South End of Boston. The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine has 34 faculty who engage in clinical service, teaching and education. More information about the Department may be found on our website: http://www.bumc.bu.edu/busm-pathology/

Good God, no. I haven't been chief resident for a decade. Being chief resident was the worst job in the world, like being the ultimate sewer that **** gets dumped in. You can't fire anybody so the only way you can get the little dumb buggers to do anything is through thinly veiled threats. Then the mid level residents try to flank you. Once you get out in practice, you lose sympathy for all those whiney worthless residents that can't do anything.

LOL-I too have been a chief resident but i must have worked with a better group of fellow residents.

What ninny put that job description together?

The candidate is to sign out surgical AND cytology 1/4 of the time but experience in BB and/or informatics preferred? Good lord. Have you ever in your life seen a serious blood banker signing out cytology? Comical!
