Does the oxidation state method and the half reaction method both work for all types of redox reactions or does one method work sometimes and the other method work other times? Which method do you recommend learning for the DAT?

I agree with benign. learn the method that always works and you don't have to discriminate between the rest.
Just remember the steps for basic and acidic solutions, (OH- , H + additions) and remember the order you that you do each step, and you will be fine.... at least I think so....

Holy crap, redox reactions are kinda lengthy.. would they put something like this on DAT?
