I'm trying to find out when it is more appropriate to use the Western Aphasia Battery vs. the Boston Diagnostic Aphasia Examination. I've been able to research the differences between the two tests, but have not found how to choose between them. Do any of you know, or can point me where to look? Thanks.

The BDAE is good for a patient who has a fairly high level of cognition, alertness, attention. It has the ability to detect more mild aphasia cases. However, it is long, complex, and difficult to administer. The WAB is a great measure and is fairly easy to administer. After you use it for awhile, you will likely be able to administer portions at a patient's bedside from memory. I use the WAB most often, but occasionally use the BDAE. A little note: The Boston Naming Test is a great tool to use in addition to the WAB.
