Hi,

I realize that Rad Onc can be difficult to initially target one location for living, but what if you're coming from a top 10 program and just want to be in a big city without limitations as to which city (big as in NYC, Miami, Atlanta, LA, Seattle, etc). If you have very flexible geographic constraints is it likely you can find a job in a bigger city following residency? Thanks for the insight.

Its all about odds, so if your flexible, sure you have a better chance. You may not get the exact job you want right out of residency, but with time you can end up in one. Keep in mind, big city jobs are quit desirable so you have very little negotiating power. That does have its downsides (forget about COLA, you will actually often get less than in smaller cities). But if being in a big city is important it will likely be worth it.

I would say it's very much possible, especially if you're willing to consider academic positions. As mentioned above, salaries/income generally will be lower in bigger cities compared with smaller areas. More competition, etc.
