Books and magazines... any recommendations?

Hey everyone, can anyone recommend me some books and magazines (not MCAT review books) that may help me do better on verbal reasoning / CARS? I want to become more familiarized with humanities and social sciences.

I like The New Republic which has some upper level reading material about humanities. I've had a subscription forever (practically), but you can also read free articles here: http://www.newrepublic.com/tags/culture

I suspect Psychology Today would be good also.
