Central Sensitization: Potential Botanical and Nutritional agents for Improvement and Prevention

Kevin C Wilson, N.D., D.A.A.P.M.
PRESENTATION

As the negative impacts of opiates on glial cell activation are better understood – such as central sensitization and negative neuroplastic changes - non-medical, non-conventional therapeutics are necessary. This lecture will discuss the mechanisms of central sensitization and glial cell activation and explore some of the botanical agents, including cannabis, that can mitigate this process toward opiate resistance, chronic pain and possibly addiction.

SPEAKER

Kevin Wilson, ND, DAAPM, has been in private practice for 32 years. His focus is general naturopathic medicine with an emphasis on musculoskeletal issues and pain management. He has lectured frequently on naturopathic pain management and various injection therapies. He is an adjunct faculty member at the Naturopathic Clinic of the National College of Natural Medicine, supervising a clinic shift in physical medicine.

Dr. Wilson has long been involved in naturopathic medical politics in Oregon and as such has served on the Oregon Board of Naturopathic Medicine and as president and legislative chair for the Oregon Association of Naturopathic Physicians (OANP). He is a member of the OANP’s legislative committee, serves on the Oregon Pain Management Commission having and is the chair of the Formulary Council for the Oregon Board of Naturopathic Medicine. Dr. Wilson is also currently on the board of the Pain Society of Oregon (PSO) and a steering committee member for the Portland chapter.
