MTB 3 states that BP is treated with tetracycline and erythromycin + nicotinamide as alternatives to steroids .
I dont understand the rationale behind this treatment .There is no bacterial cause behind this autoimmune disease to begin with .

Can anyone share their views please ?

Those medicines have anti-inflammatory properties in addition to being antibiotics. It's the same rationale behind using them for acne (or in some cases, some will use them for atopic dermatitis / psoriasis)

It is a steroid-sparing alternative

Obviously we are talking about mild to moderate BP, first line treatment for severe acute flares of BP is still steroids
