Hey guys,

I finally got my MCAT back and I scored a 36. I have been making a list based upon my MCAT and GPA and wanted to know what you all think. I know there is no guarantee to get into med school, but I hope with the right list I can maximize my chances. Here is a little bit about my EC's. Also, I will be applying in the upcoming cycle and hopefully very early on. The only issue with my EC's (besides perhaps any gaps or the amount hours) is that many of them were in my Junior year. I have a good reason for why this is, but I am not sure how much this will hurt me. I will have some decent letters of recommendation and some excellent letters of recommendation. Also, I am interested in DO schools ( I find the stated goal to be very fitting to what I want), would my MCAT score be a deterent (I.E. they would think I was unlikely to go there.) I am in no way infering that I think my MCAT puts me above it or anything to that effect. I just was wondering if because it is above the 90% mark for acceptance would it hurt my chances. @Goro I was wondering if you could especially answer this last question if you would be so kind.

Spent a summer in Switzerland working in a Camp and a counsellor for children ages 6-10 and a magic specialist for children ages 6-17

150+ hours of research involving hypnosis and its relation to religious experiences.

100+ hours volunteering for a hospice

75 hours Captain of my intramural soccer team

President of soccer club and magic club at my school. Both have been used for charity fundraises. About 100+ hours for both combined.

3+ years volunteer soccer coach for children ages 5-9

50+ hours of shadowing various types of doctors (primary, plastics etc.)

70+ hours volunteering in a Hospital

( I havent done these next couple but will next semester in Australia)

Study abroad trip in Australia

100+ (likely 100+ hours) Hours of community visitor in Australia (like hospice basically)

Officiated my parents renewal of vows (perhaps not something to put on, but a very important moment for me personally for a variety of reasons, should I keep it off?)

100+ hours tutoring high school kids

300+ hours tutoring for MCAT

50+ hours of having a high school student stay with me for a day and shadow me at college from the local area.

Nothing wrong with aiming high! Skip UCSF, Brown, Harvard and Yale, but add more schools like Pitt, Northwestern, Vanderbilt.

And did you mean TUCOM-CA? TCOM is in TX. You're fine for ANY DO school, and VCOM is in your backyard. PCOM, WVCOM and Campbell are nearby. I can't recommend LUCOM.

Thanks so much for the advice. Curiously, any reason why to drop Harvard, Yale, and Brown? Also, thanks for the recommendations for the DO schools. I meant TUCOM - CA, and I will look into the others you recommended. Thanks again.
