So called "top schools" are ranked as such by US News based on acquired research dollars, so they tend to find candidates attractive that speak to that focus. Do you have some in-depth engineering projects that could substitute for this expectation? Will be applying this June.
I currently at a top 15 University
I am also a California resident, so I am considering the UCs to save money
Major: Engineering (Systems)
Minor: Healthcare Management (Business Minor)
Overall GPA: 3.98
Science GPA: 4.00
Major GPA: 4.00
MCAT: 37 (PS 14, VR 11, BS 12), Took only 1 time
Extracurriculars:
EMT, Medic on school's Emergency Response Team
President of Student Government
President of Fraternity
Lots of tutoring
Camp Counselor for many years each summer
Shadowing:
300+ hours of shadowing, also in a class which is basically all shadowing
Shadowed ER, ENT, Neuro, Oncologist, and Pediatrician
Research:
Nothing as of now
Advice I am looking for:
Thanks!
- How competitive am I? Which schools should I be applying to?
- How many schools should I apply to?
- Anything I should do to strengthen my application?
- Should I do some sort of research this summer? Or will it look like I am just trying to complete my application? I have been told by my advisor my application is clinical sided, and research was unnecessary.
