Hi, I'm a 4th year med student at an average US MD southern school and I really want to go into FM but I know I have a number of red flags that are significant. I haven't submitted my application because I was nervous about my chances. Just trying to get an idea before I do submit, and I plan on applying to every program that accepts step 1 failures.

Step 1: 197 (third attempt)
Step 2 CK and CS: taking 9/30 and 11/8 respectively
Did well in all pre-clinical grades - P/HP/H
Due to depression from my Step 1 failures, I didn't do so well initially third year. BP for both family medicine and surgery, did well on remediation. Pass in IM, Peds and ObGyn. High Pass in Neuro and Psych.
I have strong letters of recommendation, 2 from physicians in family medicine and 1 in pediatrics.

Any advice would be helpful and appreciated. My issues are bigger than just step 1 failures, I am aware. Totally honesty is best. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Just apply and let the chips fall as they may. You might want to consider delaying graduation in favor of doing an extra year of rotations/audition rotations (if offered at your school). Your chances of matching are best while a student. Talk to your advising dean and trusted faculty. Best of luck.

Why did you fail step 1 twice? Not being judgmental just genuinely curious what went on.
