I'm starting to decide which medical schools to apply to outside of my home state. I did a SURF research program at an out-of-state public university this past summer, and I was wondering if I have a better chance at getting into their medical school because of my experience. One of my recommendation letters is from a faculty member (but not from the medical school). Do they consider any of these factors?

It's probably not a bad idea to apply (if it's within reason), but I wouldn't go in expecting preferential treatment.
