Hi everyone,
I thought it might be convenient to create a main thread where we can post links to the class of 2016 facebook groups. I hope this is alright with you kmmoon. If someone would like to create a group for the other schools, please feel free to add your link and please join! :)

I would consider joining facebook for this.

Yea yea... you read that correctly, I currently don't have a facebook.

Does AZPOD have a page?

Not trying to start a flame war here but it is extremely LAME that the assoicate dean of student services and admissions and the assistant director of admissions are the group officers for the NYCPM facebook group. Talk about controlling. Can't imagine students feeling very comfortable talking about NYCPM in that group. That's a pipeline right to the Deans office. TERRIBLE!

LOL! Ankle Breaker I have to agree! Kinda defeats the purpose of the facebook group!

I would STRONGLY encourage all you crazy kids to look through your profile and make some smart judgement calls on content. Always assume the worst possible scenario. Trust me. Like lots of things in life, Less is More

This is so true! As a matter of fact, as future professionals, might as well getting in the habit of diluting what goes on facebook whether your dean is the group administrator of your facebook group or not.

temple needs one I am just too lazy to make one and moderate it

I'm confused about the NYCPM comment.. I thought the job of admissions was to create ways for students to get accustomed to the school, meet people before coming, open up a channel of communication for questions - hence having admissions officers in the group. Is there some underlying motive of these facebook groups that I am missing? Everyone in the group is already accepted, and use it to meet people, coordinate housing, ask about supplies/books, etc. Makes sense to me to have your admissions people there to answer questions as well..

Students can't joke around with each other nor express frustration when there are NYCPM employees in the group. Trust me they MAY be there to answer questions but their main purpose is to provide a presence. It's a definite form of control. I'm willing to bet no one bad mouths the school, etc. The current SCPM 2015 group has been a great resource for our P1s. They can post whatever they want and feel comfortable about it because no one affiliated with the school is in the group. Nothing will land on the Dean's desk that was posted in that group.

It's amusing that you're acting like this is no big deal.

All of those things happen in NY facebook groups - complaining, posting jokes, etc. I think you may be a little paranoid about people trying to control you.

This is how I view it: Admissions has a meeting. "How can we better communicate with our accepted students? I know, a Facebook group! Lets make one!"

This is how you see it: Admissions has a meeting "How can we crush the souls of our students and silence their voice? I know, we'll make the only facebook group ever to be associated with the school and force all students to join. That way, if they complain about the school, we can expel them!"

I hope you can see the craziness of the second example. If the students don't want the Facebook group associated with the school, then they can easily make their own group. Anyone can create any group that they want. Admissions does not own the rights to a Facebook group. I think you may have some trust issues.

How are you guys creating these groups? I tried to create one for Temple but Facebook requires you to add members to the group. I don't have any Facebook friends that will be in the class of 2016.

How did you guys get around this?

I just created the group using a random friend. Right after the group is created, I edited the members and deleted that friend so that i was the only one left in the group.

Did you know that instead of copying and pasting into quotes, you can use the quote button on the bottom right of the person's post and it will do everything automagically for you!

Yes I know. I didn't quote in my original reply so I went back and edited the post to reflect the quote...I just copied and pasted at that point.

Just bumping for all the newly accepted students to see!

I'm going to creep hard on these groups and only apply to the schools with the most attractive single women - I'm going to pod school to find a wife, not an education.
