cme's will abound a plenty....most journals offer them, and your professional organizations sell your info to a number of CME educators so your mailbox will be full of them. you can also get cme for some of your daily activities (depending on your board) - for example, precepting residents or having a med student in your office can get you some cme credits in FP, as does taking ACLS or BLS courses.
some subspecialties have recommended recertification reading lists and timelines....
and something that is in the works now as edict from the American Board of Specialties is a revamping of the Certification/Recertification process. Though it's still a work in progress, the ABMS is basically requiring all medical boards to find a way to better assess and evaluation physician competencies (instead of just having doctors take a test to maintain certification). Included in this is not only a CME requirement, but educational modules (also for CME), a test and other tedious things.
ultimately though, you take those cme courses that seem of interest and relevance to you (or for some people, that's offered at the nicest resort)
