Hey! I ended up having a change in plans so I didn't end up going to see it last week. I am just going to go see the school next week instead! I plan attend as well. After doing research and talking to the advisor it seems like a very good program located in a great city!

Also the deadline for the acceptances they just sent back were due with the deposit by Friday the 24th

Hello,

I plan as attending as well. :) I have submitted my deposit. I plan on visiting June and I'm in the process of finding a place to stay. Have you been looking around? Where are you from btw?

That's awesome! I started looking at apartments as well and am not sure what I want to do. I want to live off campus, but close enough that I can do a short drive. I emailed the admissions advisor about it and she sent me a list of places to possibly live close to campus. I just started looking through them the other day.

I am from West Lafayette, IN! Hbu?

For anyone who has been wondering about Davenport University I finally have answers! I went and viewed the school yesterday and the program is great.

-The dean and professors of the program were super nice and informative.
-All hired professors have an extensive OT history in different demographics. General practice, hand specialist, mental health, and pediatrics
-The tuition is really affordable!
-Plenty of on campus and off campus housing
-The school is gorgeous! It has only been around for 7 years so everything is pretty new and high tech. The campus is small as well so walking to and from campus is a piece of cake.
-I spoke to the dean about the accreditation process and she is confident that they will receive their accreditation . She has lead to the accreditation of four of her previous schools so this would be her fifth! She answered all my questions about the process without any hesitation.
-The program is completely hands on/practice based. Out of all the programs I applied for they have the strongest fieldwork curriculum that I have seen. The do meet the requirements for research as well!
-The OT program and the nursing program intermix throughout the semester between skills labs and other similar practices. When the PT program starts up next year the OT student's and PT student's will intermix as well.
-They have practice scenarios throughout the year that put an interesting twist to the program because they focus on training the student on the protocol of what to do in an emergency situation. The dean told me a story about how a plane hit the top of the hospital she worked at once so they had to evacuate everyone from the building. That is why the whole health care community at Davenport puts their learned skills to the test to see how to react in this type of situation.
-All of there first year student's have returned for the second year and are loving the program.
-They are accepting 24-28 student's this year
-Because there program is more of a fieldwork based program they take GPA into consideration, but care more about the work you have done in the community. They want student's who have a strong background of working with a variety people because they believe the ability to help and assist any type of person is extremely important.

I hope that helps for everyone who was wondering about the program and the accreditation process!

Got my rejection letter today, womp womp. Best of luck to the rest of you. Rejection doesn't mean the end of it, just means something else was meant for you.

Hey everyone! I was accepted into DU as well, and I'm so glad I stumbled upon this forum! Does anyone know if there is a facebook group for all the newcomers? I know some schools do that, but I can't find one for Davenport. It would be helpful to find others who are moving to the area and need roommates. Would you also be willing to send me that email with the apartments?

Congratulations! When I talked to the director she told me that they have to wait until all 28 seats are accepted before they can give out the names of the other applicants and create a facebook group. She said that it should be up by the beginning of June though!

Hello everyone!

I emailed the OT department on Monday and asked if he could tell me if I was accepted/denied/waitlisted since I still hadnt yet got anything in the mail. He told me I was ACCEPTED and I received my packet Wednesday! I'm so excited! I was already enrolled in a different program elsewhere but wasnt too thrilled about it... This acceptance is a huge relief!! I am moving to Grand Rapids from Pittsburgh, PA in order to attend. I'm getting married in July and so my husband-to-be and I will be finding a place off campus to rent. If anyone has any ideas of a good, safe, and affordable area, let me know! Aearly, your post about what you experienced on your visit was what really got me excited about this program. Thanks so much for all the information!

I am also attending the OT program in the fall! I went and visited the school a few weeks ago but am in the process of looking for an apartment/ roommate. I am from Fort Wayne, IN but went to Purdue in West Lafayette!

Hi everyone! I am going to Davenport in the fall and am currently looking for an apartment/ roommate. If anyone has any good apartment recommendations please let me know! Also, if anyone else was looking for a roommate and wanted to live with a classmate please let send me a message! I am from Fort Wayne, IN and went to Purdue University in West Lafayette so the Grand Rapids area is new to me! Finally, is there already a facebook group for the class?
