Hello all,

Let me give a little preface before I begin. My stats are quite terrible, and believe me, I am very well aware of that. However, I would still like to apply this year because I might get lucky. I understand that it will increase my chances if I apply next year or rewrite my MCAT, but please, just focus on what I already decided to do: apply this year.

Stats:
UG at University of Toronto St. George - Physiology Specialist
Ontario resident
AMCAS GPA:
1st year: 3.09
2nd year: 3.67
3rd year: 3.87
Top two years: 3.77
Total: 3.58
sGPA: 3.55
MCAT: 28 (PS10/VR8/BS10) :(
ECs: 3 research projects (one manuscript in progress), 5 conferences, physician shadowing, 2 awards, 4 volunteer positions, president/founder of an undergrad club.

Having said that, it is quite clear my chances are zero in Canada. However, I am trying to put my full weight in the AMCAS application by applying to 30ish schools or more. I compiled a list of schools based on MSAR data and organized them by ordering them from the smallest sum to the largest sum of 10th percentile GPA, median GPA, 10th percentile MCAT total and median MCAT total. I will not be posting specific numbers about the schools so I do not look like I'm distributing their work, unless that's considered okay, I don't know lol. Also, the bold schools have 10th percentile MCAT higher than 28 (I will post that bit of info beside them).

Here is the list,

Howard University College of Medicine
Meharry Medical College
Central Michigan University College of Medicine
West Virginia University School of Medicine
Michigan State University College of Human Medicine
University of Utah School of Medicine
Loma Linda University School of Medicine
University of Illinois College of Medicine
University of Louisville School of Medicine
Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans
University of California, Davis, School of Medicine
George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences
Medical College of Wisconsin
New York Medical College
Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine
Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine
University of Hawaii, John A. Burns School of Medicine
Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine & Science
University of Minnesota Medical School
Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine
Rutgers, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School
Wayne State University School of Medicine
University of Kentucky College of Medicine (29)
Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University (29)
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine
The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University
State University of New York Upstate Medical College
Saint Louis University School of Medicine
Rutgers New Jersey Medical School (29)
Georgetown University School of Medicine (30)
University of Connecticut School of Medicine (29)
University of Maryland School of Medicine (29)
University of California, Los Angeles David Geffen School of Medicine
University of Colorado School of Medicine (30)
Stony Brook University School of Medicine (29)
Tulane University School of Medicine (31)
Tufts University School of Medicine (30)
Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth (30)
Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California (30)

Please tell me which of the above schools are unattainable beyond reason (pretty obvious that the last 6 should probably be deleted, but I would like to see your input). I should have 30-35ish schools max, unless I have a good chance at all of them  Oh and, I repeat, I am not a US citizen or permanent resident, so I guess count me as an international or an out of state hybrid.

Thank you in advance!

Your chance at any of these schools is very small. International students (when considered) have stats or accomplishments well above the median for the schools that consider them. Mission-based schools (Howard, Meharry, Loma Linda) care more about your lifetime commitment to service to their target community. Do you have that?
Did you check the MSAR to see if these schools took any internationals last year (e.g.Rutgers, W. VA...).
You need to do a deeper dive into the data to see if you have a shot at any of these MD schools. You have done research. There is nothing more relevant than the research you do into your list of schools!
You might want to look into the DO schools that are now considering international students.

Thank you for your comment. I have no done anything for their specific "target community" per se, but I have done general community service. I am definitely not saying I have a high chance at any of the above, I believe I might have less than 1% chance success at each school diminishing as a function of list position, but if I apply to all of them, I am only hoping luck is on my side and I can get in one of them because of cumulative probability.

All of the above schools are listed on MSAR as that they would take international students, but I haven't actually looked at how many international students got in last year; good point! But I was also hoping people on the forum might throw some comments here and there to shortlist the options and make my "research" a little easier and more efficient.
As for DO schools, I am not really that interested in osteopathic medicine, if I do not succeed in entering an allopathic one, I will wait another year till I have a higher GPA and MCAT score, if not, a special masters degree then apply the subsequent year.

Strategy is more reliable than luck.

How is the cycle going for you? I'm a Canadian and also hoping to get into a US MD school.

I got rejected from everywhere I applied except two schools who still didn't decide.
Half of my rejections were because I was not a Canadian Citizen (I was a permanent resident), I became a citizen on Oct 4th, but due to the rolling admission I didn't bother asking for a secondary app again.
The other half of rejections was from NYMC, MCW, CMU, UC Davis, MSU, RFUMS, etc. Haven't heard from Howard or Loma Linda yet, but I think I know the decision..

Currently, considering Ireland. If only I had a better MCAT, my chance in the US could have been better.
