I am interested in a prelim program that encourages teamwork, everyone gets along, is not malignant, you are treated with respect by attendings, and it is positive and motivating work environment. I am looking for one with reasonable work hours as well. I would also like one that does not "run you into the ground." Can you please tell me your suggestions? I am looking in the tristate area, where I lived for 9 yrs, but not in the medical field at the time.

Here is a list - these are not all of them, but I had to narrow it down. If you know of a good program not listed on here, please let me know.

And to cut this off at the pass, snide comments about needing to work hard to become a good physician, etc are not necessary - I am one of the hardest working people I know.

You're gonna have a tough time in the city. I did my intern year in a different city, and I've discussed my experience with my co-residents who did intern year in NYC. Honestly, the nurses in many NYC hospitals use their union status to the max.

Without going into things, what this means is that as an intern, you'll be doing lots of blood draws, pt transportation, etc. I rarely if ever did those things during my intern year and instead was able to focus on the main work I had to complete that day.

Not allNYC hospitals will be that way, but it seems to be the general culture.

Agree with Dral, NY is one of the worst places to do an intern year due to nurses unions who won't do anything.

Thank you both for the info. Much appreciated. Wanting to stay in my homestate, where I have found programs like this, but there is a possibility that we may need to be in NYC for a family reason so I need to apply to some up there as well.

being from new york and venturing out recently, i've found that it's pretty amazing to ask a nurse for help and not get sneered at or ignored. i think i can get used to this.

i did mine TY at MSKCC, which was by far the best experience i've ever had including residency training. Nurses and ancillary staff there are great.

Can't say the same thing about where I trained in derm though. I heard people had good experience at Sinai.
