Diastereomers - Cis/Trans

I am kind of confused as to why cis/trans are considered diastereomers or even enantiomers. I thought you needed chiral centers for them.

Members don't see this ad.
 
They are diastereomers if they are in a ring - because the limited rotation "locks" the positioning into place.
