DO matriculants generally have a lower gpa by ~0.2 and a lower mcat of ~5 than MD matriculants

DO schools also allow grades to be retaken and completely forgive the poor grade, whereas MD schools average the two

But once everything is said and done, an MD = a DO

I say MD school is better though for a couple of reasons:

1. you only have to take one boards if you want to match in an MD residency (generally better if you want to be a specialist)
2. MD doesn't teach pseudoscience so openly. DO basically features the more dubious claims about OMM. And it's one thing if DO schools teach OMM and let you know the evidence isn't very good, it's more of a placebo thing, but they don't. Some people may see this as a positive though. As my DO mentor once said, "OMM might be mainly voodoo witchdoctor stuff, but it's the easiest A you'll ever get in medical school."

I got into a DO school and had every intention of attending because I want to be a physician. But there's no way I'd ever pick a DO over MD. Especially since MD has public schools while DO does not in New York.

Hey you may think it is a placebo. But you know what? Many patients swear by it. And if you are alleviating your patient's discomfort you are doing your job as a physician in my opinion. However I do think its messed up that OMM practitioners claim it has utility outside of musculoskeletal issues. However, I am keeping an open mind until I actually am trained in it. It may be BS...it may not....but who am I to say until I try it.
