My original plans were to aim for MD/PhD. However, after receiving my MCAT score, I am a little discouraged because it falls pretty short of the median for MD/PhD programs. Should I even still bother for a joint degree or just try for MD?
A little more information:
Biochemistry major, business minor.
I am a senior in my third year of research and will most likely be published in the future. I also spent an entire summer in my school's undergraduate research program.
I have around 50 hours of shadowing an orthopedic surgeon (witnessed two surgeries)
I have around 50 hours in volunteering for a free clinic.
Average to below average ECs.
My gap year will be used to beef up some of my volunteering/research/ECs. I was thinking about becoming a scribe.
So, do I stand a chance for MD/PhD? Any advice is very appreciated. Thanks
