Does working as a "medical technician" for an optometrist count as clinical work?

Let's say that the job entails assisting with various types of eye tests and imaging, greeting/processing patients, and operating some optometry equipment. Seems sort of PCP-ish, but I'm not sure if schools are picky about whether such patient-contact experience should come in a physician setting like a clinic or hospital.

Perhaps this along with steady shadowing or volunteer experience would be enough to demonstrate interest? Or do I even need the med tech position?

Optometry assistant is a step up from being a nail stylist in terms of clinical experience. But counting vaguely as something almost begs the question of why do it. It's just not that sexy. But nonsexy sex is still sex. Just spend as little of your passions as possible dry humping your way through life with jeans on.
