How is the GPA calculated in the IMS? If one does really badly in a test does it mean the end? Does the program send home the poorly performing students?

Well our exams are graded against the medical school curve. So far, the mean was 83% and mostly in the 86-87% range so it's intense work. But again, that's why these programs are so successful.
You don't need to get like a 3.6 GPA in the program; even if you get as low as a 3.0 you still prove to medical schools that you can survive medical school. If you get below a 3.0 then I hear it's a problem.
If you put in the work and really want a US MD school, you'll make it.

Good luck and hopefully you'll be in a situation to get straight into an MD school.

Without bursting any bubbles, I would highly suggest not banking on the fact that getting a 3.0 is satisfactory. Doing poorly on an exam is simply like striking out. Don't linger on a bad perforamance. Just make sure you do well from now on. Perhaps get a tutor or ask a friend in the program to study with you. If you want to be successful in IMS, you will need to do better than a 3.0. Just remember, many medical schools will not realize the subtle difference b/t taking med school classes and traditional post-bac coursework. You have to study like a med-student in order to become one. If studying a lot doesn't pay off, then get a tutor or meet with the head-proffessor to learn what you're doing wrong. Good luck.
