Has a program ever liked an applicant so much that they offered them a spot outside the match if they agreed to withdraw their app from ERAS?

Not allowed nowadays. Don't believe anything you hear from a residency program regarding how much they like you. Some are honest, some are not. You don't know which ones are which.

Agree with above, they will lie to try and get more people to rank them highly (many people think it's how high you both rank despite the reality) so they can have the pick of the litter.

Usually, when a program invites a small group for a 2nd visit, it means they have been ranked favorably. I am not saying those people were ranked to matched.
