Speaking of Step 2 and the like...

I just got my results for Step 2 CS and was wondering about the process for updating programs. Can you resubmit your NBME transcript to programs through ERAS as soon as you get your results? Just want to make sure this gets to people before ROLs are due.

thanks everyone!
Yes, just re-release your scores. I would give it a day or two to make sure but it should be fine. Don't bother with emails...programs that require it to rank you will check before they finalize ROLs.

The thing about getting advice from mentors is that it will vary widely. The two EM PDs I asked last year said "we don't need step 2 to interview, but we like it to rank. If your Step 1 is good enough, then take 2 whenever."
Yes but its at least the view of a PD. In schools without an EM program its historically difficult to get EM specific advise at all, let alone uptodate info. I think what you are speaking to is the same with any advice, you still have to think it through and take and leave some.

Love letters!

So I know I can't trust anything a PD tells me -- but it does make one feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside. Is there anything useful to be gleaned from a program sending you a letter or is it really just not worth the paper it's written on? It's so tempting to believe what they're selling me... and that I could lose 20 lbs a week and earn money from home with this one simple trick =(

It really depends. I know one program at which I interviewed sent everyone a letter with a handwritten note. Some programs called everyone. Some programs only called a subset. Some programs don't reply to any emails/letters/love-notes.

I have a friend who was explicitly told that he would match at a program after he told them he was ranking them 1.....then he didn't match there. I was told by my PD that I was a guaranteed match. Now that I'm at that program, I know he is honest and only tells that to the top of the rank list (i.e. only those within the number or positions we have in the match).

The best thing to do is talk to people who you know the year above you from your school.

I gotcha sanityonleave

If the email says:
"Sanityonleave, your eras pic drew my attention, but you were even hotter in person. You don't know you're beautiful." - PD means it. You're ranked high.
"Sanityonleave, it was great meeting you. Please lmk if you have any Qs" - PD likes you. You are being ranked.
"Dear applicant, thanks for taking the time to explore our program. Gl on the match" - aka Gl matching somewhere other that here.

 How did you know? That's almost verbatim...

I'm ignoring the love letters/emails/voice mails. Not interested in playing games. My #1 doesn't send love letters, and I must admit, I do feel a bit fat and ugly because of it. Why won't they tell me I'm desirable like all the others? :sadfaceemoticon:

Couldn't agree more. This process is sickeningly similar to the dating game. Sometimes I feel like I should send this type of letter to some of the programs I interviewed at:

Haha, most of my top 5 said they do not make any contact after interviews so it's a lonely existence when you know that. Gives me a little resilience to not hear much (still get a few emails though no "I love you" types) and know that they don't send em but still always wondering if they just said that to everyone so nobody would feel left out when they don't send something but secretly they do make contact with the ones "they love". Oh, the games this system produces :yeahright:

I also haven't gotten an unsolicited email. I did get some positive replies back from emails I sent after the interview, thanking and telling PDs I feel I would fit in well at their program. It is nerve racking as apparently other specialities are more open about sending love letters, or at least per my classmates.

That awkward email you send to your home-PD asking advice on other progs/how to show interest...then not sending said interest-email to him:angelic:

17 more days. How's everyone keeping busy- any fun rotations/trips/hobbies? Got back into the pool for some laps after ~1y, felt pretty good!

You guys find out tomorrow if you matched, or is that next monday? Match day is the 26th?

Least we're EM and not radio-derm-surgery.

We have a couple matching in uro and ortho. They're really stressed.

Good luck everyone! Will be here this time next year.

Congratulations! You have matched!

Check the NRMP® Registration, Ranking, and Results® (R3®) system on Friday, March 21, at 1:00 PM eastern time to find out where you matched. Because you are matched, you are not eligible to participate in the Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program® (SOAP®) and you will not have access to the List of Unfilled Programs.

HURRY UP FRIDAY!

Wohoo! This week is going to be icing on the cake

Bazingaa!! Matched!! I did notice that, unless I read it wrong on the regional statistics, that there were 14... yes 14... unfilled spots in EM. 12 in the NE region and 2 in the central region. If I read that correctly that's got to be the most in over a decade and in a year where there were more EM applicants than every before. Crazy!

If true, that is pretty crazy. Definitely did not see that one coming.

Matched!!!!!! What an honor to join a field I have dreamed about joining for many years. Truly a dream come true :)

Remember boys and girls... every field is a specialist at something. A master of one aspect of medicine (except IM docs. Since FM has "health mainanance down" idk what regular IM has left). You know what we get?

We are the masters at preventing death. Literally we get to be the people called to prevent expiration in the acute setting. So when we get more than our fill of "the weak and dizzies" and "acute dilaudid deficiency" remember that all that is just a time filler between the work of actively staving off the reaper. You all did damn well and I'll be proud to be in your ranks.

Its just ironic because the few people I know that only entered AOA didnt match. But yup, i literally feel emotionally and physically drained post massive catecholamine release when I saw those words on the e mail!

For real! I'm in the same boat and just one of the reasons I decided to do ACGME only... AOA match is a crap shoot, lol! Still high on happiness!

Matched! Friday can't come soon enough!

Absolutely honored to have matched, despite only ranking 10 of 14 places as a couples match. Thrilled. Excited to see you all at ACEP/SAEM and to be a part of a community with you all.

Congrats to all the future DOs from another who will join the EM ranks in July! So pumped for all of us!
