As a Canadian student considering applying to the United States, I don't quite understand the English requirements for some, if not all, American dental schools. Is it already a requirement for a U.S. bachelor's degree? Generally, are these requirements only fulfilled by courses which primarily focus on the English language (grammar, literature, composition)? I read on the med forums that it should be offered by the English department. I expect it to be different for each school, and I know I should call, but if someone could lead me in the right direction it would save me looking like a fool in front of the schools.

Thank you!

Yes you need it for a bachelors degree. Dental schools require it because you need to be literate and be able to communicate your thoughts clearly.
