Hey Everyone!
Congratulations on being accepted to the FDU school of pharmacy or which ever pharmacy school you had chosen to go to. It is a wonderful accomplishment! I am actually a student at FDU candidate 2016, part of the first inaugural class. In addition, I had attended FDU during my undergraduate in Chemistry. I was also very nervous with the new program and knowing that the school cannot be FULLY accredited until the first class graduates. I believe this program is going to be very successful. A couple months ago the accedidation committee came to the school (which they MUST do with every new program to visit) and I had a group discussion with them. They stated that they were very impressed with the new and innovative program and all it has to offer. For example: the dual Masters/PharmD (which you must have a BS to pursue), volunteer work (traveling to Florida to assist terminally ill children with life-threatening illnesses), private graduate scholarships given throughout the community, small classes (which gives you that one-on-one student-teacher interaction that is greatly needed), internships and so on. But you really get the full experience and a lot of opportunites are offered to you. Yes there were ups and downs during the first year and because it is a new program you cannot expect things be 100% perfect. However, every semester you get to evaulate your professors and they have always took each comment and improved (providing slides prior to class or adding more pictures than words...w/e it may be).
Sorry about the essay but it is great that this pharmacy school, and others as well, prepare innovation pharmacists for the future and they really try to push you out of your comfort zone and be more creative and communicative. Because after all; the potential to impact and help our patients is most rewarding!
