in the Berkeley review it says co2 will predominate. But it says 5 molecules of co2 will be produced .. Wouldn't 10 molecules of co2 will be produced since caprylic acid is cleaved to 5 acetyl coa and for each round of Kreb cycle there is 2 co2 produced ??

Are you sure it didn't say that 5 molecules of CO2 will be labeled, rather than produced? Because caprylic acid is an 8-carbon fatty acid, there should be 4 acetyl-CoAs produced (3 passes through beta-oxidation, with 1 left over), which should result in 8 CO2 molecules being produced.
