Does anyone know if we are able to apply for a fellowship after residency? I was hoping to maybe do one in sports medicine.

Get a great residency and you wont need a fellowship.

Just out of curiosity, can anyone provide a comprehensive list as to what fellowships are available for podiatrists? for example can a DPM do a vascular surgery fellowship to further specialize in vascular surgery of the foot and ankle? or would something like that be redundant after doing a 3 year surgical residency.

Thats actually a good question. The two links above pre pretty comprehensive on fellowships. Doing a fellowship is something to really focus on a lot later. Even if you get a really good residency, there certainly can be further reason for doing a fellowship. Our scope is fairly unique and varies from state to state, however it still limits us from performing some advanced procedures such as percutaneous endovascular intervention, and bypass above the knee as you you would learn in a general surgery residency with vascular surgery fellowship. There are certain unique areas that some will tend to focus on. You have to just skim through some of the fellowships on the list to see. Some are sports medicine, research, wound care, or certain areas of advanced surgery. Hope that helps.
