I recently saw a friend from undergraduate for the first time in a couple years. She'd heard that I recently got into medical school and launched into this:
Her: You got into medical school, right? I have an average GPA and MCAT, do you think I have a chance?
Me: Uhh, when did you put your application in?
Her: End of September
Me: Well, what sort of medicine do you think you want to do?
Her: I can tell you what I DON'T want to do, anything with kids, old people, genitals, or skin.
Me: So then what DO you want to be?
Her: Just a regular doctor, you know, like a family doctor.
Me: O_0
Me: Well in that case, why don't you apply to some DO schools?
Her: Oh I don't like DO schools.
Me: What don't you like about them?
Her: I don't like the philosophy, they're more focused on preventative care.
Me: ...okay
Ummmm... I want to be a doctor but I don't want to work with skin, genitals, young people, old people, middle aged people, or the sick.
Do you think I have a chance?
