My O5 friends (no O4s that I've heard of) got letters in the mail last week, then emails from HRC today regarding an "early out" non-retirement option. You would owe money for tuition paid (USMA and med school) but not for partially funded GME.

I don't think it's as good as the Air Force option, where they paid people for lost potential retirement. Nonetheless, it's a ticket out of this shambled mess.

Probably wouldn't, I'm sure they're just covering their bases.

Turkish, your friends who got the letter, was there anything common between them? ie. specialties, time owed, flags on file, etc..

If you're an O-5 military doc who doesn't have an academy/ROTC/USUHS commitment, you're probably still in the military specifically for the pension. Why would they think that an early out option that doesn't offer a pro-rated pension would attract any takers?

A great point. I dont see any such buzz in the Navy. Are these early out options only USA/USAF specific?

This is the first time I have ever heard of this option. They should offer it to O4s and I bet they would get a significant number of volunteers

They should offer it to me. Because I would strangle a live kitten with a dirty tube sock, or sit through a 6 hour long justin beiber concert, to take that deal.

Does anyone have any specific knowledge about whether this "early-out" option is actually legit, and if so, who to contact at MEDCOM? I have multiple friends who were USUHS grads with me in '02 that just pinned on LTC this past spring. They would salivate at the chance to get an "early-out." Granted, they are all medical and/or surgical subspecialists who would make 2-3x (at least) what the military will pay them this year.

Then again, who would want to leave a system where they have removed CME money, can deploy you at any time and pay you < 3% percentile in your specialty during the prime of your career?

13 year types should be nearing the end of their pain in most cases. That's why the early out. Get nearly the entire payback and keep people from getting to 15 where they have to stay and cost the taxpayers a retirement.

I don't know if this is the same thing as referenced in the OP, but this is the document sent to me the other week. I scanned it only long enough to realize that it has no relevancy for me.

I knew I should have gained 50 lbs prior to the last board...

Start complaining about a long transatlantic flight, fever, bloody diarrhea. Although still unlikely to work.

I found my printed countdown calendar on the wall of my office to be somewhat helpful. I use a sharpie to cross off a day each morning.
