Thankfully, I didn't have to interview and UTEP happened to look at my strengths. Plus I save so much money (Total tuition is less than $35,000) since I'm in-state. I couldn't be happier.

Does anyone know anyone that applied to Shawnee State and has been accepted?

Hi everyone,

I'll be applying this Fall and have a few questions for people who have already applied, been accepted, etc.

1) When you get an acceptance, do you have to accept/reject the offer right away? What is the time frame like?

2) If you accept an offer, how big is the down payment (or whatever it's called)

3) Should I be lucky enough to get several acceptances, would it be feasible to accept more than one of them and decide where to go later?

I'm trying to coordinate my masters with my boyfriend's medical school residency, but he won't find out where he matches until late January. It seems like it might be a huge, expensive mess (and/or impossible!)

Thanks for reading!

They give you anywhere from 2-4 weeks to decide once you receive an acceptance. The deposit ranges from $200-$1000, I think $500 is typical, but each school is different. Some are 100% refundable, some are nonrefundable, and some take a % if you change your mind.

You can put down a deposit at as many schools you want, but that could get expensive.

I know there are many questions about students with low GPAs and I'm glad to say that I am one of them. I made sure to work hard in my prereqs since I have a low overall GPA. I've been pursuing OT since my senior year of high school and have always been passionate about helping others. I made myself standout in my personal statement and made sure I rocked my interviews. I was so happy when I got the acceptance email!

Ahh, cheers to Touro NV class of 2017! My dreams are finally coming true.

Hi @Kky151,

Congratulations on getting accepted by Dominican! I have very similar stats to yours and am hoping to for advice in applying to Dominican. According to Ryan, the avg pre-req GPA and overall GPA is around 3.7 while I have a 3.395 overall...do you have any recommendations in standing out as an applicant during the interview process or within the online application process?

Here are my stats

Hey! Good luck with applying this coming term. Its super stressful and time consuming but it is worth it. Our Stats are very similar and I think you have a good chance of getting an interview. I would say, get a lot more hours in OT. I worked as an aide for like 1.5 years and also, my mom is an Peds OT, so I have alot of experience being around OT. I wrote a lot about my experiences in my essay and during the interview process and I think that was what made me stand out. I would talk about maybe how your job as an interventionist has made you want to learn and do things with ot. Overall, just prove to the school why you would be a good candidate for their program. Compared to Samuel Merritt, Dominicans interview was alot easier. I was interviewed by professors that were extremely nice and made me feel at ease.

I am absolutely pulling my hair out during this process (haha). I have read these forums for several months but am just now finally deciding to post. I'd love to hear from others applying to the same programs and any feedback about whether or not my experience seems sufficient. My GRE is rather mediocre and my OT hours aren't very high but I am hoping other strengths will hold some weight. I am feeling rather panicked in not hearing from anyone yet, even if it is still early! Good luck to everyone!

I also went to CSU Monterey Bay :] I graduated in 2013 with a BA in Psychology. I wish you the best and hope you are accepted to the schools you are applying to! I'm no expert on the "secret" to getting into OT school because I am a first time applicant right now too but my suggestion if things don't work out this time around would be to try and retake some of your prereqs to raise your prereq GPA and prove to admissions that you are motivated now and capable of doing well. Just keep getting all of the great experience you are getting and never give up on your dreams!

Hey everyone, would this be considered a good GRE score? I'm worried that the Quantitative is going to look very bad.

Quantitative: 48th percentile (152)
Verbal: 87th percentile (161)
Writing: 93rd percentile (5.0)

I had the same issue.. lower quantitative score. Most schools look for your score to be over 300 combined, or 150 each section. You did very well in V and AW, so IMO, you seem competitive, and grad schools would feel comfortable/pleased with your scores. When I talked to my college advisor, he seemed to think I didn't need to retake the GRE, so I guess I'm passing along the same advice to you.

So I am about to send my completed application to George Fox and just wanted some feedback. This is my number one choice for pt school and I know that with their recent accreditation, it will be much more competitive.

My stats (specific for GFU):

Science GPA: 3.44
Pre-Req: 3.53
Observation Hours: 1000+ in various settings (inpatient, outpatient, pediatrics, geriatrics, special needs)

Do I have a good chance at at least getting an interview?

Feedback will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

For prospective applicants who have average or low GPAs, don't give up. I thought my credentials would get me nowhere, but I still had a couple doors open for me, and now I'm loving the program I'm in.

Were you required to interview in person? I'm out of state and I'm debating on if I want to apply. My stats are pretty similar to yours.

I had to interview in person but I live in San Diego so I didn't ask for a skype interview, they might allow you to do a skype interview if you are out of state. I suggest calling them to ask and just submitting an application. The application process doesn't take long at all if you already have all of your materials and the best part is that it's free to apply! The only thing you have to pay for is a background check (around $40) if you are accepted. They have another cohort starting in the spring (maybe March? I can't remember). I am very glad I applied and I'm very excited for orientation which is next week! :]

Really?! That's awesome! Thank you so much for the feedback. What schools are you applying to? Also, I just heard back and I got an interview at midwestern university!! :)
That's awesome! Congrats on your interview, I hope it goes well! I applied to Stanbridge College in Irvine and I was accepted :] Orientation is next week!

^^Your stats are so excellent! Congrats on your acceptance to USC!
I noticed many of the schools that rejected your application (such a stong word, lol!) are on my list to apply to next cycle and my stats are slightly lower than yours!!
overall gpa: 3.61 (and hopefully climbing)
pre-req gpa: 3.2-3.5 depending on school
last 60 gpa: 3.9
gre: 153/153/4.5

I am wondering why those schools said "no thank you" to such an excellent candidate and if I should re-examine my choices? agh, so stressful!

Hey everyone, would this be considered a good GRE score? I'm worried that the Quantitative is going to look very bad.

Quantitative: 48th percentile (152)
Verbal: 87th percentile (161)
Writing: 93rd percentile (5.0)
You're joking, right? Oh, what I would give for those scores, lol!

I know my GRE isn't good, but most of my schools do not require it. Any thoughts or feedback would be appreciated!

I'll post again once I hear back from all of the schools I'm applying to. Best of luck to everyone else applying! I’m sure you’re all as stressed out/anxious as I am. I feel that most of the schools I'm applying to are "reach" schools for me. If anyone has any input about my chances, I'd greatly appreciate it if you shared! Thanks :)

How are they reach schools? I don't see anything here you could improve upon, really. Imo, your GRE scores are fine, lol!
For schools that are rolling admissions, it's always good to get your app in early, so get that OTCAS verified! Good luck!

Thank you!! I guess I just feel discouraged from comparing my stats to others that have posted, and also from hearing about how it has taken people 2 or 3 years of applying before getting in. I'm trying to stay positive, though! Another year off wouldn't be too bad anyways :)

Thanks! I did my background check after my interview but before my acceptance although I think you can wait until after you get your acceptance. Also, someone in my cohort is from Colorado and she was able to do the interview remotely just so you know :]

Hi everyone! I started sending in applications this month - so nerve wracking! My OTCAS app was completed a few days ago. Does anyone remember how long it took their app to get verified? I know that the site says 4-6 weeks, but just curious about what everyone was actually seeing in terms of verification times. Thanks, and good luck to all! I'll be posting my stats/applied schools here soon.

@wannabeOTinCA I submitted my OTCAS on 9/5/15 and it was verified 9/24/15. So that's a little less than 3 weeks. I have heard that it's taking longer for those who submitted later in the month, though. Best of luck!
